Mornin' Amy. Busily getting ready for the picnic. I'll be working on the name badges today and getting all the picnic "stuff" together and shopping for the ingredients for the tri-tip marinade and the fruit salad.
Will be having lunch with my MIL in the middle of everything else today. I will get back here when I can. TTYL

Hey Lori, What is tri-tip marinade?
And I would like to have a good recipe for fruit salad. I have some but am not crazy about mine.
Just whenever because I’m busy too. Gotta go to pool store, and do other things too. Seems you are might busy too. Guess we all are, don’t you?

JC - did you take those pictures? They are GREAT close-ups!
Here is an interesting clip about the 'birth' of the cicada - and the 'chorus' of their call (in the background).

Good morning, Lori. I may be AWOL for most of FRiday’s thread.
I’m going picnic shopping tomorrow. On my list is to remind you to bring a ladder. LOL
Hope you received the last minute RSVPs.
I’m taking short breaks today for laundry (Marissa has nothing to wear for tomorrow)and last minute picnic stuff.
Looking forward to seeing you this weekend.
Did you see the ping about Jim being released from hospital today? Yeahhh.

Mornin' Amy. Browsing through the comments while enjoying a few cups of fresh ground coffee.
Go Governor Palin!!!
YES!!! Seems the left-wing MSM, bloggers and pundits are in an uproar, claiming that Gov. Palin lacks experience and was not vetted.
The good folks in Alaska have already vetted her and support her in the 80% range.
In contrast, Barak Hussein Obama's vetting and experience process was accomplished solely on the novels he wrote disguised as autobiographies, and his approval rating stands in the 40% range.
We now return you to our regularly scheduled programming...

No yorkie, I didn’t take the picture....not quick enough to remember I have a camera now...LOL! I got the pictures from the Internet. If I had taken the picture from inside the window, would that have shown up? There’s so much I don’t know yet about the camera.
I could have gone outside and took its picture and wished I had. It finally left but it stayed there about 4 hours. Maybe its on its way to Arizona, huh? They don’t hurt people. I will look at your video....they can be noisy when there is a lot of them. That thing was almost as big as my hummingbirds.

Happy Wednesday, FRiends.
Today we are celebrating .....
American Flag first flown in battle in 1777
Do It Day
Australian National Flag Day
Football Day (Graphic by MamaBear)
Proud Red Hearts
Come on me lads and be of cheer
Pack up all your cares away
Put songs into your proud red hearts
The Redmen play today
Me old red scarf I have it here
The Liver Bird she rests
And nestles close to my red heart
That beats with passion for the reds
Scouser Tom with Shanks and Bob
Look down from heaven's park
I see me Dad he's there with Joe
So near, yet still so far...
So come on me lads and be of cheer
And pack your cares away
Put songs into your proud red hearts
The Redmen won today.

It appears, depending on the species, the larva burrows underground for 2, 13, or 17 years, then emerges to mate again. Here is a link with some info:

In Oak Creek Canyon, the ‘chorus’ seems to run up and down the canyon, in a strange, rolling sound. It gets louder and louder, then gradually fades into a quiet ‘screeching’, then repeats.

*Good Afternoon To Amy's Place
Slow Down and Notice Your Life
by wayzatajohnn
Like quicksilver the lake waters glitter
and the sun dances to a celestial song
As martins swoop and dive and flitter
as summer so swift speeds always along
Sweet scent of flowers, smell of pine
flavor the day with hints of memories
The breeze tumbles butterflies, a sign
and my mood changes as ordinary flees
Laughter by the lake sets the mood apace
lovers, old folks and children understand
Life is for living outside the race
Oh blessed, this sun soaked lovely land
