Weather channel just declared Gustav a CAT III, with 115mph winds....
And that’s *before* it gets into the GOM proper....
Weather Underground shows it at CAT-3 on the 5 day
forecast now,,,if I’m lookin’ at it rite,,,
Floater - Visible Loop still shows CAT-2,,,
Passing their forecast point to the north,,,
Wobble I guess,,,
Sure looks like it’s takin’ a jog to the north,,,
Maybe eye-wall replacement...
” Maybe eye-wall replacement... “
I don’t belong in the same room with the experts on this thread (and I could never afford to stay at a Holiday Inn Express...)
Isn’t it a bit early in the process for all this??
Just from following along, I’m more used to seeing phrases like “eye-wall replacement” as storms get into the open Gulf waters....
IYO is it possible for Hanna to keep enough strength to swing around the tip of Florida and get into the Gulf?
Glad you had the opportunity for a restful night.

~~~
That means it’s gone to CAT-3 early(NOAA forecast points).
Mite go to CAT-4 BEFORE it hits Cuba,,,
I guess that could kick it back toward Nola,,,and,,
That warm water eddy north of Cuba could push it to CAT-5
before it hits those wells/rigs...:0(
TS force winds extend 160 miles from the center.
Seems to me it can happen when the storm starts crankin’ up,,,
Warm water,no wind shear,,,
Just a guess,,,
We’ll find out soon...:0/
Hurricane Gustav is a more imminent threat to the U.S. for the next 48 hours.
Thanks for the ping!
Looks to me like this one is going to parts east of Texas. NO again?
Thank you, NautiNurse. We got the dregs of the last one; and tornadoes, amazing deluges of appreciated rain, hail, and our plants want MORE of the same.
*groan*
Can’t wait to see the visible image this morning.
We’re all hunkered down here. We’re in the Baton Rouge area.
We also went to the camp yesterday in Pierre Part and secured the boat, trimmed some tree limbs close to the house and picked up. The bayou behind the house is thankfully low right now.
Currently, it looks like a central LA landfall. Stay tuned...
Glad you have completed your preps. The next 48 hours are going to be stressful watching the storm develop and the forecast track adjustments.
Will do, not out of the woods yet. Nor are you with Hana.
We picked up some big beautiful blue crabs while in Pierre Part!
Nothing like a crab boil while waiting for a storm!
Hanna—it would be difficult for Hanna to hook around heading SW, then to thread the needle in the FL straits without some landfall impact. Too soon to make guesses. Never say impossible.
I was thinking about my friends in LA last night, so I prepared shrimp remoulade. Y’all know how to make the best eats!
Mmmm, shrimp remoulade...mmmm
Well, we’ll be watching- Thanks for your hard work on these hurricane threads. I check your updates more than I watch the weather channel!!
