Yes, better late than never. I'm glad you made it, but sorry I've been 'gone' all afternoon. :)

There were some fun things to celebrate today, and the watermelon and peaches look so real and juicy I can taste them! From jaycee's pictures, too!

Whew! That was a heck of a lot of states having festivals for one day! But at least we had links to all of them except one!

Hi, PaL - we gave you a birthday party last Saturday, but we had to eat the cake without you. Hope you had a good one. I know you’re not here now and I’m talking to myself. Thanks for stopping by today! (in your red, white & blue) :)

"Anyone ever had a rattlesnake looking in your house?"

A few years back, a friend (and her dog) came to visit. I joined her on the front porch, with my little furry kid. She went to sit down on the wicker chair - and just before she sat, she gasped, "Get the dogs in the house, NOW!"

I grabbed both yorkies and looked at her face, as I scurried into the house. She was running to the front door, just behind me, but looking under the chair she was about to sit on.

I followed her glance, and was shocked beyond belief - to see a ten foot long diamond back rattlesnake, relaxing under the chair she was about to sit on.

I immediately called 911, and they sent out Animal Control within minutes. The officer used his 'catcher' to grab the monster by the neck, just under the head.

But, he had a problem - he held the snake way up over his head, and it was so long, the tail was still dragging, (and whipping around and rattling, angrily).

It took two officers to get that monster into a large bucket - to relocate. I was so shocked, I don't think I took a normal breath for over three days.

The officers were visibly shaken, as one told me that was the biggest rattler he had ever seen!

The thing that bothers me, is that rattlesnakes are territorial. They always return to their "home". I have never seen it again - but sure keep my eyes open.

:)

I couldn't remember for sure if it was Deborah Kerr or not, but it only took a couple of seconds to google From Here to Eternity to get her and that infamous scene!

Well, you covered more in that post in as few words as I've ever seen! LOL

I knew you'd remember the wrens on my front door. It's sorta like dita's hummingbirds and Lori's scrub jays - just an awesome experience watching them become a family.

It's a shame skunks are so pretty and smell so bad. Roscoe has been 'skunked' so many times we've lost count - he just won't learn he can't chase one if he sees it. :(

I know you're watching the Olympics. Go! Get back to it. :)

Phelps is unbelievable!

OMG! That was too close a call! And WAY too big a rattler! I’ve never seen one that large either. “Ours” are usually in the 4’ range - mere midgets compared to that one. But no matter the size, they’re all capable of delivering a lethal dose.

P.S. It took two officers to get that monster into a large bucket - to relocate. I was so shocked, I don't think I took a normal breath for over three days.

You wouldn't catch my hubby or me 'relocating' it - unless it was relocating its dead body to the dumpster.

Everybody has such interesting critters.

Well, most everybody. LOL. I'd sure like to get rid of mine - the fruit rats. At least we don't have snakes here and I've not seen or smelled any skunks. The jays and mockingbirds are about as interesting as it gets. We do have moles/gophers. I could do without them too. Oh, and I love hearing the call of the redtailed hawks and watching them circling overhead. Although, I know they are looking for prey......hopefully not someone's little chihuahua or kitten. Hopefully, maybe someone's fruit rat. LOL

Fruit rats...LOL. Sounds about like the wild life around my house too.

You have those things too? Nasty critters. I have to keep all of our citrus picked up off the ground, I know that attracts them. But they can climb the citrus trees, so I am not sure what difference it makes. They seem to love my ruby red grapefruit.

Hmmmm......not too sure I’d like the grilled peaches with blue cheese. Sounds like a strange combination, but the watermelon sure looks good! And that baby with his face in the watermelon is just too funny.

We have gophers, too. They're almost impossible to get rid of. We've tried everything we've ever heard of. They're ugly little critters, too.

Nite, Lori!

I looked around a little bit, and found a yummy recipe for Banana Split pie!

If you're talking about the recipe for Banana Split pie that WVNan posted yesterday, I can tell you from experience, it is VERY good. She fixed one for me and my husband when we were visiting her recently. Really yummy and looks very easy to prepare too.

Hope you'll come back and visit with us again, dixiechick2000. Always lots of fun stuff going on here. ;-)

If you kill a rattlesnake in AZ, you face major fines, and possible jail time. And, if I had tried to kill it, (with my luck), it’s head would have swung around and it’s fangs would have gone right into my flesh.

IOW, let the ‘authorities’ deal with it. I have had to call 911 several times over the past 15 years - to remove rattlers from my property. But, never before or again, one that big.
