And do you remember what you paid for gas at that time?
My first car was a 1972 Pontiac Parisienne my dad gave to me in 1975, I have no idea how much I paid for gas but I do remember driving it for weeks without having to stop and put gas in it..
1961 Ford Falcon - sky blue, 2 door, stick shift
On second thought, maybe it had the tiny little single window, that got replaced by the bigger one in later models. Don’t even have a picture of it, dang it.
My first car in 1976 was a 1962 Ford Country Sedan Station Wwagon. The floor board was rusted out in the back seat and it looked like crap but it got me and my buddies where we wanted to go for 2 years. Then I bought a 1972 Chevy Impala. It was a retired State Police Cruiser. Loved that car. Gas was $.42 a gallon and I could afford to fill the tank whenever I wanted.
1966 Ford Mustang convertible (metallic powder blue/white top).
This was in 1970, I was then a 19 year old girlie-girl.
In 1972 it was 1967 Plymouth Belvedere, 4 door metallic blue with brand new retreads. At the time gas was about 50 cents a gallon.
‘55 Hillman, otherwise know as a English Ford, 6 volt, Positive ground, and about .29.9 cents a gallon for regular.
Lol, I think it said it took 30 minutes to get it started. The ice cream would melt!
Look at #110, THAT is my car.
‘68 Kharmann Ghia, $.25 a gallon.
1952 Chevrolet.
1969 350 Super Sport Camaro, with an Erson Cam, S&S Headers, big ol drag slicks, aluminum tunnel ram intake with two 680 Holly carbs, 12.5:1 pistons, and could it fly. And I didn’t give a crap what gas was. Nor did I have air conditioning. heck, at 100 mph, who needs air :)
.
Not the first
‘65 Corvair Corsa - rocket in the back
Turbo wrapped for more boost
Stock with sodium-cooled exhaust valves
15x8 Vette Rally rears
14x7 Z-28 Rally fronts
That slightly overgeared it -
Z-28 front spoiler fastened to body pan under front bumper
Mucho faster than 911 Turbos after 50mph esp. - or Jag V-12s
I’d seen redline on the tach with 15” F-60-15s instead of tiny 13s
Sold it to a postal delivery guy who stuffed the turbo engine in his VW Karmann-Ghia - and took my advice on wheels, tires, more weight nearer front bumper under the hood
VW’s doing wheelies are not safe
68 Kharmann Ghia- Wow that Car is a blast from the past..Do they still make them?
I got it in 1967 as a hand-me-down and paid $31.9/gallon for gas.
I had a 1948 Dodge with a back seat bigger than a living room couch. Gas was $.11 a gallon.
I don’t think so. My engine blew up while traveling through Wasco on Hwy 99. Might have been the faulty exhaust extractor I put on to make it sound louder.
And a beach blanket in the trunk - if there was a trunk because of that ‘rocket in the back’.....
The California Classic hardtop. Brand-new, turquoise & white 1957 Chevvy Bel-Air, 4 door hardtop. Automatic, PS/PB, R&H, and (optional) front bumper nipples. My father bought it for my use, and also provided a company credit card. I didn’t have to worry about gas, which varied between 19 and 26 cents. But I had to give the car back when I went off to MIT.
.
Aha - not the tiny ones
Red MGA
MG (Morris Garage) also made a Twin-Cam engine option - a buddy at Fort Benning had one in BRG
That’s a great Car!
IMO- We would of all been better off sticking to driving cars then all these Trucks and SUV’s that are on the road now...
