Never before has an antibiotic been tested this way. "In the history of antibiotic development, an antibiotic arrives on the scene, and sooner or later resistant bacteria emerge," Tomasz says. "We sought to test in advance which would win this particular chess game: the new drug, or the bacteria that now cause human deaths."
Ceftobiprole won. "It just knocked out the cells 100 percent,"

It is irresponsible for a doctor to prescribe an antibiotic without also prescribing a probiotic but they just won’t do it. I’ve had a couple of relatives near death because of doctors’ stupidity on this subject.
Does Intravenous Vit C cure MRSA, as well as lots of other infections? It very well may. http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&aq=t&ie=UTF-8&rls=GFRD,GFRD:2007-22,GFRD:en&q=intravenous+Vit+C%2c+MRSA
Amen brother!
I know you don't, but that's okay. Science works. It always works. AGW and ID/creationism aren't science; they are religions. You seem like a thinking person. From now on instead of using science-based birth control, pray that pregnancy doesn't occur. Let us know how that works out for ya.
I don't think everybody gets it. It is a shift in paragigm. We were on the defensive; now we are on the attack. It's pre 9/11 vs. post 9/11. Take the initiative and kill 'em where they live.
You can't kill what isn't alive. We can destroy every virus we know, but you severely injure or kill the host. Believe in science and capitalism. They will find a way.
The article isn't about the drug, but a new preemptive approach. When the bacteria evolve, we will already have the weapon ready to destroy them. Ultimately they will disapeear from the earth. Yea science!
The plant strategy for dealing with disease is to cut off food and water to the effected area and let it die and grow around it. Not a viable strategy for an animal. That is like saying “My foot has a fungus” and the Dr. says “cut off your foot”.
I have given this quite a bit of thought.
If I understand virii correctly, they attach themselves to cells and then inject their DNA into the cells, which forces the cells to manufacture more of the virus.
If scientists could manufacture a "friendly" virus that would attach itself only to "evil" virii and inject their friendly DNA, then in theory evil virii could be wiped out.
Also, I know that virii can/will attach only to specific types of cells (or locations in the body), so it may be possible to manufacture friendly virii that seek out specific evil virii.
Can't tell if you are being sarcastic, but if you aren't, I doubt it. and I doubt if it's desirable.
We are symbiotic with countless bacteria. A better approach in the long run would be to strengthen populations of harmless bacteria, ones that can keep the baddies in check.
Of course you mean "When strains of existing inferior bacteria that are resistent to the particular antibiotic and already present emerge in greater numbers because the superior competition for resources has been negated by the antibiotics...".
What I mean is that when a population of bacteria that exhibits variation in its genetic makeup is exposed to a selection event like toxins in their environment most die, but some survive to reproduce. It's called evolution through natural selection. Some old guy named Derwood or Darlin, or something that, discovered it more than 150 years ago!
Sounds like a good idea.. hunter killer viruses.. parasite virii, predator virii.. or even virii traps..
What a load of sanctimonious twaddle, but I'll respond anyway. Everyone can be saved, but so what? Frankly I don't give a rat's a$$ about Kennedy's soul, his redemption, etc., but what I'm addressing are his actions over his life while swilling at the public trough. Your attitude reminds me of the misguided fools that gather around prisons protesting the death penalty when a particularly heinous murderer is put to death. All sympathy, empathy and concern for the criminal and none for the victims.
But I'm going to pray for that, and him,
Tell me honestly how often have you posted that you're going to pray for Mary Jo Kopchne? How often do you pray for the millions of taxpayers robbed of their hard earned wealth by Kennedy and his ilk. Those taxpayers who go to their graves un-prayed for by those exhibiting the ostentatious piety you're demonstrating here. Who was it in the bible who was praying "'O God, I thank you that I am not like the rest of humanity--greedy, dishonest.." Why I believe it was the Pharisee in Luke.
All of your irrelevant posturing aside, I haven't seen any evidence or statements from Kennedy that he's renounced his lifelong goal of turning the USA into a clone of Cuba or North Korea. Have you? I guess that as long as he remains alive he is still an active and tireless enemy of everything I believe in. So by all means pray for his soul if it makes you feel good about yourself and throw in a phrase or two about thanking God that you're not like the rest of humanity. I'll pass on the hypocrisy and thank God that one of my enemies can only do me harm for a limited amount of time.
Your attitudes are just like those on the left who celebrate the passing of conservatives. Believe it or not, they also think they are right. When a conservative dies, they celebrate it’s someone who has (hopefully) spent his life and careeer working against what they truly believe in. Tell me how you’re different, without using the phrase ‘But I’m right’.
While you root for him to die and I’ll root for him to realize he’s make some big mistakes before that happens. Your assessment from that is it makes me a pu$$y who has no compassion for victims. I don’t really see it, but I’ll let you be happy thinking it.
As far as me implying that I’m better than other people, you’ve read me completely wrong there. I admitted that you’re way better than me. I need help as much as anyone I’ve met, whereas you don’t need anyone or anything to help you.
When you answer my questions I'll consider answering yours.
whereas you dont need anyone or anything to help you.
No, I'm just not a hypocrite.
Very nice, you couldn’t use ‘I’m right’ so ended up with ‘You first’. I’ll answer your questions:
“Everyone can be saved, but so what?”
So why are you angry about me praying for him to come around?
“how often have you posted that you’re going to pray for Mary Jo Kopchne?”
She’s in good hands already, I don’t need to post about praying for her. Truth be told, I didn’t want to post about Kennedy but it started about with a stupid comparison denigrating people who do.
“I haven’t seen any evidence or statements from Kennedy that he’s renounced his lifelong goal of turning the USA into a clone of Cuba or North Korea. Have you?”
I haven’t either, but I’ll let you tell the Lord he can’t save people.
So please now, it’s your turn. And also tell me how I’m hypocritical in stating that I need the Lord’s help and so do many other people, and that I ask Him for it, through Him.
Once again you misunderstand what I said either deliberately or from lack of comprehension. I don't care about his soul - that's between him and God. What I care about is Kennedy as a power for shifting the USA toward a totalitarian police state.
difference
The difference is that when Reagan died he was not an active enemy of theirs and had been out of politics for years in essence he was a non-combtant. They were celebrating his death from a personal viewpoint. Kennedy is still very much an active enemy. When the enemy is shooting at you (or passing legislation that harms you) you don't wish him well. Kennedy's retirement would serve just as well as his death from my point of view. It's just that he will never retire as long as there is one bit of freedom left in this country and he's still breathing. He will never stop until 1. his side eliminates every trace of freedom OR 2. those of us who treasure freedom are killed resisting OR 3. he dies. Since there are only three alternatives, and I don't like the first two, the third is my choice.
I'm not a hypocrite because I'm honestly expressing my desire for him to move on, drop dead , or do whatever needs doing to stop him from being an active force for a totalitarian state. For me to express some ostentatious prayrs for him would be hypocrisy on my part.
Along those lines..
Jesse Helms funeral is today. The TV News folks did a piece yesterday commemorating him.
Of course, they had to interview folks that did not like him and/ or his politics.
Got me thinking.
I don’t recall the News folks ever interviewing an opponent of a deceased lib, ever.
