Has anyone tried one of these? I have not, but they look kinda neat.
Now they will store milk 2.5X longer, so you are more likely to buy milk that will go bad faster.
It is hard to make changes don't you know. :-)

So we are to just accept mediocrity? Pretty soon we’ll all be eating green crackers so we can worry about the “big” issues.
Necessity is the mother of invention. An old saying proven true once again. This is a great innovation that will save time and money. As for those who think all of the money will flow into WalMart’s pockets and stay there, think again. WalMart is a fierce competitor and does not ever hesitate to use reduced prices against their competition. I suspect that within 12 months, the old style jug will be history in just about all markets.
As for Katie Couric, wow, hasn’t she come far these days. Doing the lead-in to negative stories on WalMart. What a surprise.

This type of plastic is the Type 1 which is always recyclable. Therefore, there is no solid waste if you recycle them.
I have used them and you have to be a little more careful about pouring them. As with everything there is a learning curve.
What is good about them is they take up less shipping space. Now you can stack more inside the transport trucks which saves fuel. We all want less shipping costs to be tacked on our price per gallon of milk. Don't we?

The next invention. Sam’s will sell you one for a few pennies....... Actually when the jug is full they recomment using a tilt and pour method rather than out accustomed lift and pour method.
Where the NYT article was written at in Ohio they were selling the milk for $2.18 gal.
do you have any tricks for getting them REALLY clean. .....................Clean the jug with some clorax and water, that should get rid of the odor.
Well that’s a good thing then if the price doesn’t change. If you haven’t noticed but in most stores milk is going up in price, I just paid 4.50 a gallon here in Phoenix, so if by changing somethings to make it cheaper to transport while maintaining a low price then whats the big deal? Oh it’s Wal-Mart, never mind they are automatically evil no matter what.

I choose not to consume meats and dairy from Walmart, SAMs, Costco. Reason - They use hormones (Bovine Growth Hormone ) to increase their milk production.
A family from church bought all their milk at Walmart. Their teenage daughter (14) had a constant period for 3 years. The doctors were recommending a hysterectomy for their daughter. Dad was doing research and realized their milk had this hormone in it. They changed milk and her health problems disappeared.
Many sources believe that BGH increases numerous health risks including some cancers, early sexual maturity, acne and others.
Price is important but its not the only consideration when choosing what to feed your family.
Looking at that pic I can see why it would spill. I am not a structural engineer but it seems to me that the front of the carton would collapse a little when you pour from it causing a burp effect.
Buy a funnel, or a pitcher. Although the cost of washing these items are going to pass the cost saving on to the consumer, so no cost saving there. And if you spilling 1/8 of what you buy, you aren’t saving very much either. Not to mention the paper towels used to clean up spills.
I think I am thinking too hard about the shape of a gallon of milk.

Why don’t they cut the mouth deeper into the jug and make the lip narrower and taller. Seems that would help.
