You would think that this story is right out of science fiction. But the facts appear to be that the US Democrat-controlled Congress intends to destroy the Republican middle class with $11 per gallon gasoline.
No madam, I am talking about a 20 KW or better electric boiler. They will more than handle your primary heating needs. Your water heater is good for about .5 KW. No wonder you are having problems heating with it.
Go to Thermolec.com and look into it further. This is a really efficient design and is computerized and about the size of your Microwave oven. I heat 3800 sqft. with it effortlessly and cheaply on Off-Peak. (5 cents PKW)

well...I’m sure my grandparents too - but things were different then.
They lived on a farm.
I’m sure they had a well they could go to.
I don’t know how to cook without electricity.
They had an outhouse.
They only bathed once a week in cold water.
We don’t have a well (well we do - but we can’t hand pump water out of it, and we don’t get water when electricity is out)
We don’t have a fireplace -or a brick oven fueled by fire - or a way to cook with fire.
I know what you’re getting at- but practically speaking - I’m not going to be able to take care of all these kids this winter without running water and electricity.

Open up domestic oil drilling immediately. Turn back on the older wells now capped off. Fast-track new safe nuclear power plants. Stop creating global food shortages by killing off corn-based Ethanol production. Waive the punitive duty on cheap Brazilian sugar cane ethanol. Plant lots of domestic switchgrass for cleaner & cheaper ethanol manufacture. Begin a crash construction program of 50 new advanced nuclear power plants nationwide. Stop burning up natural gas to generate electricity. Build new clean coal-burning electric power plants nationwide (China is turning one per week for the next 5 years), and construct coal-to-oil conversion plants. The Germans were doing this in WWII. Alternative-energy sources like cheap 4th-generation solar panels will ramp up as their prices continue to fall.
I think it is too late for you. It isn't too late for my husband and his co-workers. We are on the beautiful California Coast and we have oil washing up on shore from natural seepage. We know it is possible to get the infrastructure in place to begin our energy independence. The mere initiation of such plans will begin a positive change.
My husband will never be a grumpy old naysayer. He is a can-do kind of guy and the USA is lucky to have guys like him ready to roll. My husband does think you should be proud of what BP is doing in Alaska.
Just building the roads into ANWR would take 2 years. Then, the drilling pads need to be constructed, cooling pipe installed in the roads, pumping stations built, 70 miles of pipeline built, housing, airports, electrical infrastructure, and the list is vast.
The first drop of oil from ANWR will not be seen in Fairbanks for at least 5 years. That’s if they waive all the environmental impact studies, or shortfalls involved in construction. Add those, and it will be more like 8 to 10 years.
And that will be the edge of the cliff, with crude at roughly $200. And the latest predictions of $300?
The SWHTF before that. With crude at $300 fuel in most of Europe will be around $30 - $35 a gallon. In other words too much. Here in the US that will have diesel at $10 to $12 or more. And that is simply too much.
The cost of fuel to move goods around will be so far out of sync with the rest of the business model that everything will just stop moving. No food delivery, no medical supplies, even the fuel itself, etc. When that starts to happen, the liberals/socialists/communists will demand emergency procedures and the enviro-whacks will be dumped by the commies around the world.
Then drilling, pumping, uncapping and new exploration will get kicked into high gear.
I am worried about folks in the north this winter. I am expecting a very cold winter and tons of snow. Since I am on the global cooling is happening side of the global warming argument. Another hard winter with shy high fuel prices could make this a ugly winter in the USA. Glad I live in Texas and have a fireplace too.
This whole thing must be hung around Bill Clinton’s neck. If he had not vetoed the bill in 95 we would be using ANWR oil right now. Democrats are getting what they want.
Of course. But, changes are coming. Won’t hurt to start thinking about alternatives. You can still buy a cast iron hand operated water pump. They are cheap, too. My grandparents bathed in hot water in a regular bathtub with a drain but no water spigots. They had a big old cast iron stove in the kitchen that would get hot all over, heat the kitchen, bake bread, heat bath water all at once. Last time I looked they were still making them for about $2000.
You are right....and if we would have started in 1995 we would be done. But people then said, "We won't benefit for 10 years so what is the point?"
I say if we start today we will see immediate stabilization at the pump and we will get the attention of the people we are currently beholding to in order to meet our energy needs.
Ask your close group of FReeper friends if they have called their Congressman and Senator about this issue in the past month. Odds are you will find them saying, “No”. Like good sheep, they are waiting for someone else to step in front and assume the leadership position.

I go down the list of Alaska politicians and elected officials and find that even Democrats encourage resource production, including but not only oil. We’re fine here in that respect.
2000 will get you a delux stove. you can spend a few hundred and get a good one. I use a old $50 one in my ‘club house” works great. two many three chunks of oak last 4 to 6 housrs easy.

I don't have a close group of Freeper Friends. I don't think I have a single friend here but there are a couple of folks whose posts I enjoy. As for me, not only have I contacted my representatives, I have written a letter to the editor that was not published but will try again. I also signed Newt's Drill Here petition, made a donation, forwarded the link to my friends and have addressed the issue as a public speaker while emceeing events behind enemy lines.
Are you implying that the folks who post here are all talk?
