Verizon CEO to Steve Jobs: Drop Dead
Counter Notions ^ | SAT, JUN 28, 08

Posted on 06/29/2008 8:35:45 PM PDT by Swordmaker

In an interview with The Financial Times yesterday, Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg had this to say when asked about the competition posed by Apple’s iPhone:

“It’s very cool. And Steve Jobs eventually will get old… I like our chances.”

That’s got to be one of the most indelicate utterances by one CEO regarding another.

Mr. Seidenberg is about a decade older than Mr. Jobs, so he can’t possibly be referring to his age with the most unfortunate “Steve Jobs eventually will get old” phrase. He must be referring to Mr. Job’s frail appearance at the Apple WWDC in June.

Apple said Mr. Jobs was suffering from a “common bug” but various pundits and AAPL shorters claimed it was due to his recent brush with pancreatic cancer. Nobody outside of his immediate circle really knows what may or may not be medically worrisome with Mr. Jobs, but why would a competitor’s CEO feel the need to raise it so brazenly?

This chart covering the period from Mr. Jobs’ cancer diagnosis in October 2003 to the present might give a clue (red: Apple, blue: Verizon):

What’s peculiar is that Apple doesn’t directly compete with Verizon: the former is the maker of the iPhone, the latter is a carrier. The competitor Verizon should actually be worried about is AT&T, Apple’s iPhone carrier partner in the U.S.

What should really concern Verizon’s board, however, is why 18 months after the announcement of the iPhone, the Verizon camp hasn’t been able to come up with any remotely credible “iPhone-killer”? They should ask their CEO what other concrete plans he might have to compete with the iPhone other than hoping that Apple’s CEO drops out of the picture due to “old age.” How does the $20.3 million-a-year CEO of a $100 billion company like Verizon display so openly its inability to compete on innovation by placing its “chances” on the demise of another CEO?

Can you imagine another CEO, even such an old adversary like Bill Gates (or even Steve Ballmer, not lacking tackiness otherwise), would ever make such an ill-wishing statement? For shame. The least Mr. Seidenberg can do is to apologize to Mr. Jobs pronto.

What is supposedly the sin I’ve done to you here?

You continually lie about my positions and my actions, either by just blatantly throwing out lies or by taking parts of my posts clearly out of context. That is false witness. I already directed you to the part of the Bible that says that's a big no-no.

yet I haven’t seen any evidence you’ve provided I wasn’t right

The evidence is in my posting history, easily verifiable. And don't you think it's a little late to finally try to prove yourself right or admit you were wrong? I gave you the chance already, multiple times. It's already on record as a lie, that's not changing.

Anyway, I did the count and gave the percentage based on that posting history. I counted every post of mine in any thread with a title related to Apple or Apple products. Even though you only claimed "Apple computer" threads, I included threads not related to Apple computers to make sure you couldn't weasel out as you had previously tried to do (maybe "An iPhone is really an Apple computer and you didn't include those."). It also includes me making more posts that I would normally have due to your trolling on a previous thread. Since it was the beginning of the month I decided to do the entire previous month, but included that day so that my extra posts on this thread due to your trolling would be included, so it's a month and a day.

In other words, the survey methodology is skewed completely to your advantage and against me, yet you still only got 16%. That is less than a third of what would have been needed for you to be right.

where you try to swerve the discussion off the pertinent items and far out into left field

Kind of like going from an Apple thread to prayer in school and personal attacks on me? Hypocrisy is condemned in the Bible in so many places it's hard to decide which one to remind you of.

But to answer some of your questions, well, I can't because they're mainly of the "Have you stopped beating your wife" type. You are not asking me questions, you are again falsely accusing me of things using the form of questions.

You still haven't shown you posted on anything else more LOL. And don't bother preaching to me about the Bible, considering your hate for it. Why? Why the hate for Christians and our faith? Why the constant attacks, and slurs against God's people? Do you even know?

You still haven't shown you posted on anything else more LOL.

I see you've tried to silently switch your claim after it was shown to be false, hoping nobody would notice. You've taken this dishonest tactic before. I didn't work then, and it won't work now. Your original claim has already been established as a lie.

And don't bother preaching to me about the Bible, considering your hate for it. ... Why the hate for Christians and our faith?

One direct lie about me, and another lie formed as a question. In any case, you're the believer, yet you're the one here breaking the commandment.

Ooooh, before I even read this I know there is going to be a LOT of context missing as you create even more lies and try to distort my positions. You can never resist doing that. Let's go for it:

Sorry, I forgot how nasty some Christians can be in response to perceived threats to their dogma.

In response to an unprovoked personal attack by a Christian who I hadn't even posted to on that thread. The originating post even stated that science should not be taught as "truth," IOW, it shouldn't be competing with religious claims to truth.

As is usual for apologists you are really reaching to explain away problems in the Bible.

To someone who was making ridiculous claims as to why a pool had a circumference of 30 cubits and a diameter of 10 cubits, making pi 3. The specific claim referenced was "Whose arm was used for the cubit?" which has no relation to the ratio of pi, and that is reaching. In that very same post I myself explained away the pi problem of the Bible rationally, better than the apologist in question did.

What you’re doing to the Bible is the equivalent of looking at a cloud and seeing a fluffy bunny. It is itself born suspect.

In response to someone who is into Bible code, which I believe is also rejected by most Christians and Jews.

The religious often think they’re superior and can apply their beliefs to all others. Both are annoying to me because of their agenda to make others believe or act as they do, by force of logic, law, or violence.

Wonderful, a completely out of context quote. It was in response to a Christian who complimented me for being honest. The part just preceding that you left out on purpose in order to distort my post was that I apply this equally to religion-haters such as Hitchens who want to force their non-belief on others.

This is the champion of Intelligent Design, a bunch of liars.

Written immediately after I gave a concrete example of a Discovery Institute lie.

If you actually have a functioning brain, you realize the Bible is not inerrant and some reason such as rounding or lack of knowledge caused the authors to write 10 and 30.

Yeah, that was a little harsh, written after I was subjected to some abuse by a Christian. But I was backed by the evidence.

It reminds me of the old Carlin skit, thank God for every touchdown, but you never hear “Jesus made me fumble on the line of scrimmage.”

Very true. When do people ever attribute bad things that happen to them to God?

Well, there we go. You love to lose context in order to lie.

So these are your pathetic excuses for continually attacking Christians? Take this one for example:

“In response to an unprovoked personal attack by a Christian who I hadn’t even posted to on that thread. “

What personal attack?

That is certainly a reasonable reading of the statement, unfortunately it is also reasonable to assume he was talking about appearance... He should have spoken more clearly.

It all depends on who replaces him, last time the transition was not done well and the people left with stewardship of apple did a terrible job because they were not forward looking.

I have been through quite a few such phones over the pas 5 years everything from Black Berries to the old sprint phones which looked like triquarters, palm phones, windows phones, ....

To be honest the iPhone is the *first* phone that, to me, does not feel clunky so while ‘sucked’ might be a strong term the iPhone is most certainly an evolutionary step forward for the smartphone concept..

I would say thats quite a reasonable position. I myself am a Christian and dont want public schools doing prayer. Some day my kids might go to school in an area that is mostly Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist, .... and I dont think I would want them subjected to that prayer.... would you?

What personal attack?

Okay, in a thread these are these things called links, and when you click on them they take you somewhere. Now this board has links that go backwards through comments to see what was replied to.

Use your newly found knowledge to discover the answer yourself.

I already looked, there was no personal attack on you no matter how lilly white and thin your skin is. And claiming you aren’t provoking people when you go around constantly attacking their religion is equally absurd. Why do you do it? What benefit are you serving mankind by persecuting Christians? Do you even know? Considering you think you’re smarter than God you sure are stumped for the answer LOL.

"I’d never have someone like you working for me. I prefer what is commonly known as “thinkers”." That is a personal attack. That it was unprovoked is proven, since that was the first post to or from that person on that thread.

Now that your attempted diversion is taken care of (with your lies as questions and taking my quotes out of context yet again), back to your proven lie on this thread. You've already tried to weasel out of this twice, and I'm trying to think of how you could try again. I thought you might say number of posts isn't representative since the post size on Apple threads could be larger, thus taking more of my time (time was what you claimed).

So I did the survey again, with the same methodology that is heavily biased towards you (including threads not about Apple computers). I included only the text I typed, not copied and pasted. The results are :

BTW, I just wrote all of that and I haven't done the survey yet. I'll post the results even if by some miracle they show you are correct.

The results are (rounded): 181,000 total characters, 54,000 on Apple threads = 30% on Apple threads. You are still 21% shy of not being a liar. If I restrict it to your claim of "Apple computer" threads and generously add in threads about the OS for the computers (which adds in where you trolled me), it drops to about 20%.

You clearly lied about me in your fourth post on this thread, and you have been running personal attacks against me to try to distract from it. It's not working, your lie has been proven and documented.

The troll ran off for about a couple of weeks after I proved it was lying about me again (standard out-of-context quote). But then it came back again a few days ago. These pesky things are hard to get rid of. Does Raid work on trolls?

What's up, planning to stay or just breezing through? Hopefully you're still a Christian, and I trust that you are. Anti-Republic isn't though, not only has he supposedly turned his back on God, he's out there actively attacking Christians and our faith. I doubt he was ever actually a Christian, as a matter of fact. Not many, if any ever go from actually being a Christian, to then attacking us so endlessly and ruthlessly.

He won't explain why he does it, either, even lies and claims it never happens, even when confronted with his exact words. Why don't you ask him then, why does he constantly denigrate Christians, then lie about it when confronted? What is his proof the world would be better off without God? It seems so important to him, yet he can't explain why he does it. Sounds to me like he's not even in control of himself, a mindless puppet spewing hate against God's own people. He thinks we're ignorant, if we were only as smart as him, he thinks. Then we'd dispose of God like a bad habbit. Yet can't seem to voice a single word of why we should.

Ask him why, he won't tell me. I guess he really isn't that sure. Can you imagine, spewing hate against God, and not even sure why you were doing it? Must be a horrible, lonely, place, he should immediately beg for forgiveness for constantly taking God's name in vain, and seek redemption by changing his life for the better, but he won't, his ego won't let him. He'd rather worship technology, he thinks that brings more good to the world than God.

If you're anything like the n3wbie of old you'll probably whine to the moderator this post is too personal and should be pulled. Go ahead, I don't care but I'm trying to help, on many levels. Think what it would mean if this guy's soul could be saved. Is it a lost cause, maybe, but maybe not. Maybe not. And that's what matters more than anything.

30% on Apple threads

What did you post on more? Nothing it doesn't look like, even after all your crying. Post after post after post of your whining without any explanation why.

What did you post on more?

That is not a question I researched because it is not the claim you made. I researched your claim that I spend most of my time on Apple computer threads. I found out it was false, and you neither admitted it was false nor apologized for bearing false witness against me. I believe you are supposed to beg forgiveness from God for that too.

LOL what do you post on more? According to your own untrustworthy stats it's 30% of your posts! What is even close? Yet you've been whining post after post after post like a baby who lost his pacifier rather than discuss more mature topics that are going on. It's just another perfect example of not only your endless whining, and how you will not only try to divert the discussion off on some irrelevant tangent, but when the evidence (which noboby really cares about because it's such an obscure point you've attempted to fabricate) is analyzed you're actually wrong. It's quite pathetic.
