DUANESBURG, N.Y. - A 29-year-old man leaped out of a plane at 10,000 feet with a camera but no parachute Saturday. His body was found next to a house with a damaged roof, police said.
Sloan Carafello of Schenectady, who was observing on the flight, followed an instructor, student and videographer out the door, wearing no skydiving gear, officials said.
Police said they did not suspect foul play but would not elaborate.
Robert Rawlins, pilot and owner of the Duanesburg Skydiving Club, said he was flying the single-engine plane and had begun to close the door when Carafello jumped.
His body was found next to a house west of Albany.

And the significance of the damaged roof??? The damage roof had an outline shaped like a man with no parachute. Probably just a coincidence.

“Oh yeah, but think of the footage!!!”
I remember about 20 years ago a group was trying to see how many jumps they could do in one day. On the third jump the guy with the video camera strapped to his helmet forgot to put on his parachute. His function was to video the other jumpers (tandem I think) as they got out and opened their chutes. The video shows him looking on first his right and then left shoulder for the d-ring and realizing it wasn’t there. I don’t think it had sound, but everyone knew when to say “oh, shit!”

He just got caught up in the moment and followed them out, forgetting that he wasnt wearing a chute. Not a mistake that a person with a brain could make.
I have skydived and have checked my chute 25 times as we circled for altitude. I KNEW that I was wearing a chute. It was foremost on my mind.

There are rules to skydiving that should always be followed. One of those rules are,
that if the plane is being used for skydivers during the flight,
everybody in the aircraft must wear a parachute regardless if they
jump or not.
One reason for this is that a jumper or debris from a jumper
may clip the rudder and cause such an emergency that everyone may
jump out and survive.
Even the pilots of jump taxi's wear parachutes.
Rules are rules.
