Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!
It’s raining! I’ve got around a half inch or so already. So much for mowing the lawn. :)
I’m toying with the idea of stripping the kitchen cabinets to the wood. I should at least do the hardware.
Heh...yeah. My point exactly. ;-)
OK, about ready to head out! There’s a guitar workshop I wanna check out at nine-thirty, and then the music starts after that. Here’s hoping I don’t get lost on the way down!
Heh, me thinks we’re in for some rain. As soon as we got back with Gypsy, I commenced cutting the grass, got finished and it was springling.
“Im toying with the idea of stripping the kitchen cabinets to the wood. I should at least do the hardware.”
Well, if you sit down and apply a cool compress to your forehead, the feeling will probably pass. :-)
Heh. Yeah, I was thinking the same thing although I still want to do the hardware.
And I’ve got this can of paint stripper that hasn’t been open yet.
I’m still trying to decide if I want to be up yet...
Well, techinically it hasn’t been in the state of being “open.”
I’m just sayin’...
LSA The voice of experience
Mmmmm....methylene chloride....
So far the rain has been light on our side of stateline, hasn’t even got the sidewalk under the trees wet. We’re having a nice cooling break from the 100s last weekend. Windows open and nice breeze courtesy of the attic fan.
I’m planning on straightening up thebuilding today if I can ever get motivated. It’s still in disarray from the beach. I may take a load to the dump. Or may just load it up and take it tomorrow.
Or not.
Your dump is open tomorrow? Public or private? Our city landfill is open 8-3 M-S, for your convenience (or not).
We get a break with the recycling center, it’s open til 4:30. Now, it’s a self-dump recycling facility and they could leave it open all the time, but they don’t.
LSA
The County landfill is open all year with the exception of a few holidays (Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc.)
Our recycling is picked up once every two weeks. We just have to haul it to the curb.
We must be more progressive-er than you...so to speak...
Okay, I’ve put this off for far too long...
Yeah, I have errands to run, too. Except I really want to hang out ‘round the house and pack. I have to hop on an aeroplane tomorrow for an early AM business thing on Monday. Joy.
I’m not even sure our county has a landfill. Christmas trees go to area lakes for nesting sites, and dang, there are a lot of gullies to fill up :-)
Our city has had discussions for years about whether to limit the number of trash haulers or not. So far, they have not. The trash haulers offer recycling, but with just the two of us, and, with me not having employment outside the home, it’s just as easy, and cheaper, for me to take the recylcables every month or so.
The first house we bought had cabinets with a very dark walnut stain. They was just U-G-L-Y, and looking into one was like looking into a black hole. After six months of feeling like I was cooking in a cave, because the floor was a busy black, gold, and avocado print vinyl, and the walls were a puce green, I decided I needed a change.
I thought I might strip the wood and put a lighter stain on it, but even after taking all the stain off the top, the color was SO deep in the grain, all I could do was paint them. Our across the street neighbor was appalled that I'd paint those 'lovely wood cabinets', until I showed them one of the doors with the stain removed, but with the blotchy aftermath. He concurred that paint would be best. ;o) I did them in an arctic white that turned out great, and even did the walls in the same white. It was a BIG job, though, cause I had to paint the cabinets inside and out. We also did the floor in the peel and stick vinyl squares in a similar white, and the room looked half again as big as it had before!
This time, I only have to paint the doors and the face frames, cause SirKit is building all new cabinet boxes. and since he's using a plywood that's maple on one side and birch on the other, I'm just going to put a clear stain on the inside, which will be the maple, and on the outside, it will be painted anyway, if it's an end cabinet.
We’ve got some pretty heavy development pressures here.
In other news, I’m slightly demotivated by the branch through the roof of the shed...
Oh dear...
I wasn’t planning on stripping the insides...just the doors and the facing.
Didn’t think you could strip stain...
