The Hobbit Hole XXXVI - O! Water cold we may pour at need...

Posted on 05/03/2008 8:48:06 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Jr. and I saw “The Dark Knight” tonight. Just wow.

Indeed! Wasn't Heath Ledger just awesome? What a absolute crying shame.

He was amazing. No one will ever be able to adequately be the Joker again.

What a tragic end to an incredible talent.

And all FR oldtimers.

I just exchanged posts with old time Freeper leader CAL (Clinton’s A Liar), who has just started posting again after 6 1/2 years.

I prefer the blues to the yellows, myself. But I’ve found a deep yellow gold that I like a lot. Might do a powder room in it, sometime.

We’ve used jewel tones in the house for years, but I’m really wanting to lighten things up. I’d be okay with very pale yellow walls and the jewel tones for accents.

According to our real estate person, earth tones are fairly in right now. She liked our light yellow bathroom, loved the greens in the basement, said the existing off-mud shade in the living room was fine, and told us to repaint the red kitchen cream.

Cream is a good wall color for a kitchen, especially if you have med. to dark wood cabinets. I’m painting our cabinets a cream color, so I’m going a little darker on the walls for contrast. Paint stores now sell those little bottles, or packets, of paint for you to try out on the walls. They’re great, because you just never know how the color will look until it finally dries on the wall.

Well, the good news is that Verizon is back. Not sure exactly when but Jr. said TV was on when we got back from themovie last night. Gee, I took the afternoon off for nothing....bwhahahahahahahaha!!!!

That said, most of what the “Designed to Sell” people do is to steer away from too bold or too dark. Colors are okay as long as they’re not overbearing...

Yup. The one place we’ve painted, the basement, is nice restful greens. It’s better than cream or white because it helps the basement feel more like a real room I think.

Talon did a great job when he got this house of buying one that would sell again. We’ll have to keep the same in mind with our next house.

I've been watching the market here for two years. I've found that homes that have kitchens that have not been remodeled in the last 10 years, and houses with dark or bright wild colors on lots of walls, or lots of wallpaper, tend to sit on the market and the sellers have to keep lowering the prices. I guess they think it's too much expense to paint, but if it cost them $2000 to have the entire interior painted, they'd make that back, and more, by not having the hose stay on the market for so long and having to lower the sales price! Buyers just don't want to fool with painting, unless they can talk the seller down on the price because they're anticipating how much time and effort it would be to have it painted.

But there seems to be a ceiling for homes that are comparable to ours, but that have kitchens that have not been updated. NONE of them from 2000-2500sf in size are going for over $500K, and most are going for more like $440-475K. Buyers really discount the sales price if they know they're going to have to have that kind of work done.

Yay, it’s Caturday!

I think I really am gonna go to that bluegrass festival tomorrow. Hopefully I’d bump into people I kind of know.

Instead of “whatever shall I wear?” I’m wondering which guitar to bring. ;-) Cheap one or nice one.

We’re hoping to find something that’s NOT updated, when we finally go looking for a house. I’d much prefer to choose the finishes, colors, etc, and we don’t mind doing the work! Instant equity!

Should be fun even if I wander around alone, for the most part. Plenty to see and listen to. But I expect I’ll find folks to play with, too.

It’s a little drippy out there, which I’m using as an excuse to bring the good guitar, because it has a real case. OK, so I could actually put the other guitar in the good case...but I’ll pretend I didn’t think of that. ;-)

I’m excited...haven’t been to a bluegrass festival since one in NH where I tent-camped with one of my brothers — spent the whole weekend. That was a long time ago, though. 2000, I think, or maybe 2001. Before a LOT of things changed, in any case.

Cisco may be a little neglected today, but he’s had his food and will have plenty of water and toys...guess I can kind of make it up to him tomorrow. Not that it’ll mean anything to him....

OB wants to know if you think we’re going to get any rain today? Check your radar!

By tomorrow, he won't remember today.
