The Hobbit Hole XXXVI - O! Water cold we may pour at need...

Posted on 05/03/2008 8:48:06 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Shot this actually: Holes on far right and left are from staples. Shot that Saturday to qualify for the Utah non-resident CCW license.

Well, not really strange imo. Each state has different laws on CHL, CCH etc and qualificatins. Shooting both makes sense to us since folks can carry either.

Going what’s been told to me: AZ has two separate qualifications. If you qualify with a revolver, that’s what you can carry. If you qualify with a semi-auto, you can either. Nevada has the serial numbers of the guns you are licensed to carry, up to four different ones. New Mexico allows you qualify with any centerfire caliber but you can’t carry a larger caliber than you qualified with. I don’t think Washington has a shooting requirement. Kansas has one handed at 3 yards, freestyle at 7 and 10 yards. Missouri was at 7 yards. YMMV.

2008 nanowrimo plot. I has one.

Thank goodness for bored meetings. I got the whole plot sketched out. It’s a sequel to my earlier Scout story. :D

I’m trying to write, from memory, a story about a trip I took with the Scouts about 15 years ago, and not having any success.

Good to hear things went well at the funeral. Yes, they can be minefields.

And good about backing up your computer. SirKit's died last week too, and he has been sharing Clare's for the last few days. She is not amused. The fridge is on the fritz, too. The ice maker, which we've never connected, has a flap that allows the ice to move down into the glasses. It started flapping yesterday, then the mechanism started beeping this morning, and all the lights and numbers on the display started blinking. Glad I'm gonna be out of town this weekend! ;o)

Yeah, I'm approaching a 15-year mark, too. Time does wacky things to memory, that's why I'm so motivated to write these stories. The project started as a memoir. But, honestly, I hate memoirs - they're usually insufferably pretentious. So I've worked my memoirs into a fictional group of scouts and that way I can draw from more than just my own experiences. I'm still revising the first story and, in the process, identified about a dozen plot points that can follow up on in the sequel. Great fun!

More plotting again today.... another all-day bored meeting.

DA, visit http://www.nanowrimo.org/ if you haven’t and read the About and FAQ sections. The NaNo philosophy of writing can be applied any month and it’s truly helpful in getting past a block. The past few years, NaNo has been the only writing I’ve really done. But by writing a 50,000+ word story every year I remind myself that I am a writer, I just haven’t focused on it lately.

Good for you!

I'm still working on my 2007 story now and then...few paragraphs at a time. It's something. I'm at my typical stuck point with that story where I have the intro, the climax, and an idea for the end, but no clear idea what to do with the quarter to a third of the story that comes between the climax and the ending. I have a couple other stories at about the same point. :-\ I think it's just a matter of writing until it's done, but I haven't managed it yet.

I dunno what I'll do this year. But that's my usual MO until at least mid-October... Raining pretty good here today. Guess it'll be a good evening to get in some practice. Less than two weeks until I head to TN...

I either have to scan or retype my 2007 story since I still haven’t found my flash drive. This week though, is thorough home office cleaning week.

Hey, I don’t have a plot... haven’t even started thinking of one, so I’m no overachiever.

Aw, geesh...what a pain! Thank goodness for hard copy, though.

Yeah, for me, too. Actually I want to get the whole house reorganized before my vacation comes up. So far I'm mostly succeeding in making more messes.... But I remain hopeful.
