The Hobbit Hole XXXVI - O! Water cold we may pour at need...

Posted on 05/03/2008 8:48:06 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

I have a question...

I bought a pair of glasses at Lenscrafters in the mall and I feel like I paid too much. I also don’t like them that much and the receipt says I have a thirty day unconditional money back guarantee. The website says if I don’t just love them, I can return them within thirty days...

What do you think? You think I can just take them back and say I don’t like them and return them?

I think I did an impulse buy and didn’t shop around well enough.

Also, any tips on a good place to buy glasses?

Absolutely! I did that with my phone.

I'd check the small print to say if you can return them for a refund or if you have to exchange them for another pair. But don't settle for something you don't like.

I got my latest pair at Walmart and I'm happy with them. I'd assume Sam's would be the same, but we let our membership lapse.

Corin is right, you may have to get a different pair from them, but it sounds like they want you to be happy with them. Unconditional money back guarantee sounds like you should get your money back though...unconditionally. :-)

My pen is the one from Benchmade. The aircraft grade aluminum pointy-ended jobber. Check out the benchmade site or knifecenter.com.

Is it something like the object to the left of my eyeglass case? This is part of my EDC. The pens go inside side pockets, while the front pocket holds a comb, and some forceps, useful for getting small screws from deep within PCs. My ordinary pen is a Rotring with pencil, stylus, pen, and highlighter. When I learned they were discontinued, I bought two more spares on eBay.

Currently, I have these two GG&G "discreet tools" in my briefcase.

One has a titanium tube, and the other carbon fiber. The only testing I've put them through is as icepicks, and they work quite well.

Oh, BTW, I found your review of the ASP lightweight baton quite helpful. I got one, and it goes in my pocket whenever I leave the house. This being Michigan, I'm sure it's a felony to merely possess one.

Just say “they make me uncomfortable” and ask for your money back.

Well, it’s true. In their lighting, the glasses looked blue. In other lighting, they look black! I feel like some goth person or something!

Not that there’s anything wrong with looking like a goth person if one IS a goth person, but I’m not! I’m a tie-dye person!

Well, that’s given me some other options...I never even thought about Sams or Walmart!

I just saw the Lenscrafters, had the script in my person and went in and picked out the cheapest they had which was $200!

I wish!

We’ll still need to come get some layers someday soon...some time this summer. We’ll likely be set for meat chickens for a while, though.

Yeah, my pair at Walmart was $300, but I did an upgrade on the frames. And they came with a magnetic ‘clip-on’ sunglasses that look like they’re part of the actual glasses.

Is it something like the object to the left of my eyeglass case?

Yes. That's exactly the one. Normally I wear a polo-type shirt and I just clip it on the v-neck of my collar. Say... I really like that penetrator. May have to get one of those. Carbon fiber, eh? Must be pretty much weightless.

Check at WalMart. That’s where we got Joseph’s glasses the last couple of times. I think, even with the coupon we had from Lenscrafters, WalMart was less expensive. Have the folks there price exactly what you got from Lenscrafters to do a direct comparison. Then you can decide whether or not to return the ones you got at Lenscrafters. If it’s only a few bucks difference, it’s likely not enough to bother with.

I don’t know if you guys heard about the tornados that just ripped through near Fort Collins. Apparently the surrounding area (Windsor, Greeley) got hit really hard.

My best friend from school out there lives in Windsor. Plenty of other good friends in the area too.

Yikes! I read the headline about the tornado, but it didn’t mention Ft. Collins, so I didn’t pay attention to it.
