Prayers Lifted for your ‘church search’.
I’ve been thru a church fight. Nasty, Nasty. Personal Relationships were changed forever. Some left. But I stayed to fight on (does that surprise anyone here?) and convinced many others to do the same. The pastor was the problem, and I maintained it was OUR CHURCH and we would be here long after he’d been transported to his next assignment.
Good Luck with your search, Molly. I just can’t imagine what a gut wrenching decision it must have been for you.
I grew up in the UCC church, switched to Lutheran in the early 90’s. I say go Lutheran, they use real wine for communion!!! Woo-hoo!!! ;-))
I am sorry it has come to this.
As one who has done some church “moving” I have found the best way was to PRAY for finding a congregation where MY TALENTS will be utilized for the comments. You may find one of the indenpendents will be a breath of fresh air. Free of the trappings of “powers that be” that has caused a lot of problems in many groups recently
I think the biggest mistake people make is searching for a place where they can be a “sponge”.. just go in & take things in.. forgetting the church is based on giving of one’s talents and God given gifts to the kingdom and it’s people
Yes, I too go where I can be “fed” and grow, but that is step one
I know this has been a big part of your life with music & the homeless ministry most recently.
I had to leave churches with great people but doctrine that was just not my take on the scripture.. I am conservative religiously as well as politically & know there is a place for me (which I have found in Valley View). I am pretty sure the music would NOT be to your liking there.
Good luck hon.. you have had a lot on your plate & it seems sometimes God gives us the extra push when we are at a time of new direction & growth in new areas. You & Mr. MP will be blessed in the long run.
That is so true, Dolly. I like that about the kids' mega church.
Very well said!
Thanks for the reminder.
Bit, that's interesting. Knowing that you and my Dad live in the same area/town, I wonder if you go to the same church? Is it located east or west of Norristown?
P.S. That is Mr HOB’s favorite wine - communion wine.
Subject: 2008 ELECTION
There are less than eight months until the election, an election that will decide the next President of the United States. The person elected will be the president of all Americans, not just the Democrats or the Republicans.
To show our solidarity as Americans, let's all get together and show each other our support for the candidate of our choice. It's time that we all came together, Democrats and Republicans alike.
If you support the policies and character of John McCain, please drive with your headlights on during the day.
If you support Obama or Hillary, please drive with your headlights off at night.
I joined a Missouri Synod church when I was 14. Had baptism, confirmation, and communion all on the same day. My first taste of wine, ever. (Of course, that small sip didn’t make me jump up to the altar and yell, “Woo-hoo!”)
How well I remember, in my first trip to Europe, discovering why communion was such an attractive rite. At every dinner, that good European bread was served, and a bottle of wine was placed on the table. After finishing the meal, I would alternate small bites of bread with sips of the wine. Most pleasing to the palate!
>>Or can I blame this on the Rev. Wright?
It’s Bush’s fault
I can imagine. How old were you on your first trip to Europe and which country were you in at the tme?
Prairie, is your daughter here in the states yet?
She’ll be on the east Coast in about an hour and half.
She’ll be here in the southland this evening.
Sorry it took so long to answer you - I was interviewing a prospective teacher.
I’ll be glad to jump into that discussion of congregational music.
Look for a church that holds to basic doctrinal truths such as
I heartily recommend you investigate The Presbyterian Church in America. There is a website you can access: the PCA. Poke around there and read the doctrinal statements. Then look for the link to "find a church" and on a state-wide basis you can find one near your location.
Disclosure: I am a member of the PCA and hubby and I have been sent overseas by Mission To the World, the overseas ministry of the church.
What has happen to all our ‘neighbors’, seems like things are slowong down a lot.
