I had forgotten what a great guy Chris Daughtry is until I watched his AI audition on YouTube. I hope nothing has changed the great relationship he had with his wife and kids. Hard to believe that Simon voted ‘no’ on sending him to Hollywood!

Those are good ideas, too. The should start paying us. Or at least give us associate producer credits.
Oh! Tasers for the auditions. American’s LOVE tasers, Simon.
I am going to specifically request the kind that shoots little darts into the perp (auditionee) like on COPS. Then Simon can just sit behind his desk and taser.
Maybe because of Britain's Got Talent?
Their young stars are fantastic.
America's Got Talent's young stars are talented too. I'd rather they stay there.
Not to worry. That's what seeing and hearing this on your TV screen will do to a person:
The American Idol alum will join the Broadway cast of Grease on June 6, playing Teen Angel in the revival of the popular musical.
The gray-haired singer whose Idol fan base was called "The Soul Patrol" said he plans to add "soulful flavor" to his performance of Beauty School Dropout. The flashy role, he said, is "a classic fit for a classic performer."
"It's a big number, and, you know, I've made some pretty grand entrances before," Hicks told The Associated Press on Thursday. "And this one is probably the grandest entrance I've had in my career."

The Alabama-born crooner's run ends Sept. 7. He'll be the latest Idol to hit Broadway, following runs by season-three winner Fantasia Barrino (The Color Purple ) and a host of also-rans including Clay Aiken (Spamalot ), Diana DeGarmo (Hairspray ) and Constantine Maroulis (The Wedding Singer ).
Hicks' self-titled, post-Idol album, released in December 2006, has sold a respectable 702,000 copies according to Nielsen Soundscan data. But it didn't reach the 1 million mark or register a hit song, unlike previous Idol winners.
This summer, Hicks intends to finish a follow-up album on his own terms.
"I've had the creative freedom and the time to write some of the best music that I've ever written in my whole life. ... The options are unlimited and there has been some great interest now that I'm a free agent, so to speak," he said.
Poor Taylor. He’s about 5 minutes from a VH1 reality show.
Oh! Oh! I know!!! They are looking for a new “Rock of Love” person since Brett Michael’s found like with the broad with the big hair. Taylor could do “Soul of Love”!!!
Grin...yeah. He's only signed to a 3-month run in Grease. It will be interesting to see if they extend him after that short run.
and I for one would gladly pay for a ticket to see him.....problem with Tay-Tay is that he’s not good writers....I still love his voice - I still love him....
oops, I mean he’s NOT got good writers.....
Well, he has total creative control over his next album, because he's producing it himself independently. If it doesn't succeed, then his career as a recording artist is probably finished for good.
It's just my opinion, but after he was dropped by BMG, I think he should have tried to get signed by a small-to-medium sized label. That way, he'd be a big fish in a smaller pond. He could have creative control, and the label would have every incentive to pull out all the stops for him to succeed. The odds are enormously stacked against a self-produced album.
Cute link!
I get a kick out of the kick David C gets out of Monchichi.
DC has a keen wit. Hope he wins.
With that being said I bought his first effort and there were only like 3 listenable songs on it. The rest made me cringe. It went straight to the shoe box under my bed of CD's I bought that I wish I hadn't.
I almost wrote the guy saying "You have the use of AI Studios and Clive Davis songsmiths and this is best you can do?" Regardless of artistic control you have input and can do something better than that.
Don’t get me wrong I was not expencting Marvin Gaye, Doobie Brothers, Rare Earth, or Steely Dan when I sat down to listen to it. But I was expecting there to be R&B catchy hooks and grooves at least some rough building blocks to work on but there was none that. There was nothing there that made me want to hit the repeat button for any song. I found myself hitting the next button halfway through each song. As Randy Jackson said “I not feeling it at all Dawg!!!”.
Yep. Like any company, record companies are in it for profit. They do whatever they believe will contribute to making a profit for the shareholders.
There hasn't been a top-selling winner of AI since Carrie Underwood or a top-selling non-winner since Chris Daughtry. Of the AI winners to date, Taylor's album sold the least number of units. The following info is from Nielsen SoundScan, and is current through May 4, 2008:
Top 10 AI Alumni Album and Digital Downloads Sold
These figures include only domestic album sales. Kelly has sold several million albums internationally. No other AI alumni albums have met with international success yet. AI winners are in bold. Jordin Sparks has probably already outsold Taylor Hicks, but her digital download numbers aren't available yet.

Britain’s Got Talent has a pure quality to it (with better judges.)
Simon shows a much softer side and seems to genuinely enjoy it.
