I came across a rumor that Carley is going to sing 'Without You.' I don't think she's got the vocal chops to pull it off, but we'll see soon enough.
BTW, have you been to a grocery store in the last few days? There are three magazines out with Carrie on the cover.
Mariah Carey did not write ‘Without You.’ In fact, she first recorded it in 1994, 24 years after it was written by Badfinger members Peter Ham and Tom Evans. The huge, timeless hit by Harry Nilsson was recorded and released in 1972. I’m not sure why Mariah Carey is so identified with the song now, because Nillson’s version is still the best.
Mariah Cameltoe’s version is pretty weak in comparison.
I also can't see any of the “top 7” doing it justice with the exception of David Cook. He's probably got the closest voice for it.

You can say that again. As much as I usually look forward to Tuesday nights, when I remember its Mariah Carey night, I think, oh yeah, oh well, a sucky night coming up.

LOL at the play on her name. Yep, I don't like her version much. Too theatrical and emotionless for my tastes. Kelly Clarkson sang it twice during Season 1. The first time was on judges choice night when Randy, Paul and Simon picked it for her to sing. The second time was the next night during the results show. Here is the YouTube link to the first one:
This is Kelly's performance as it was judged. The clip includes their comments. The crowd goes nuts for this performance, and I think it's the one that made her a star.
She's so full of herself that she might as well bring a mirror on the stage with her and blow kisses at herself!

For American Idol, Sanjaya is the curse that keeps mucking things up.
Since the one who needs no last name was asked to turn in his mic last year, Tuesday’s Idol has lost, on average, nearly 1.5 million viewers. Wednesday’s Idol has shed nearly 3 million.
Last week, the curse seemed especially, if cruelly, effective, with Idol Gives Back, the franchise’s charity fundraiser, drawing the least number of viewers for an Idol-related telecast in more than four years.
Notably, it was on the occasion of the first Idol Gives Back that the Sanjaya effect was first felt.
On April 18, 2007, the night the singing hairdo turned hot topic was voted off the show, the show averaged about 29 million viewers. One week later, on a Sanjaya-free April 25, the show was down 2 million viewers, despite the promise of the latest results and the lure of an all-star Idol Gives Back lineup.
In all, from the time Sanjaya left the show through the end of last season, Idol lost 1.7 million viewers on Tuesday, and 1.3 million on Wednesday.
In 2006, when Sanjaya’s faux-hawk was not yet even a glint in some hairstylist’s eye, Idol basically remained even on Tuesdays from mid-April through the end of the season, and grew by about a half-million viewers on Wednesdays.
To be sure, the Sanjaya curse has only been partly successful in blunting Idol. The show remains the No. 1—and No. 2—show in all of TV, and the latest Idol Gives Back telecast raised a reported $60 million.
The real Sanjaya, meanwhile, could probably use a reverse curse or something to jump-start his own career.

A fellow student of mine is from Bulgaria and she sent me this link. It’s Bulgarian Idol and apparently this song is big all over Europe. Kind of the “She Bangs” of Europe I would imagine. They even made a techno remix of it in Italy or France.
This Bulgarian girl sings “Without You”, the English version, the problem being she doesn’t speak English! It’s called “Ken Lee”. Pretty funny!
It seems like Carrie is always on the cover of a magazine--not that I'm complaining ;)
