Yep...McCain pulled his lines off pretty well and looked comfortable.

I think Carly has the most singing talent...

Perhaps she had some talent when she was originally signed a few years ago, but she's washed up now.

She's been given more opportunities to succeed than any other contestant in this show's history, yet she has consistently failed to deliver the goods.

Her voice is a mess, can't connect with an audience and has excuses for everything. She can't leave soon enough.

'Idol' shocker gets mean
Not only is Michael Johns eliminated, but Ryan Seacrest is downright cruel on "Idol."

Jordin must still live in Glendale, Arizona, or at least spends a lot of her off time here. She goes to the high school basketball games that a friend’s daughter plays in, but she can no longer sing in public unless she is getting paid.

“My theory is that he got cut because pre-teen and teen-age girls, who I believe are the largest demographic in the idol audience, and also most likely to vote, are going overwhemlingly for Monchichi..”

Monchichi and Casro are getting the teeny bopper vote. I think your right that Aussie Michael was getting a smaller “female” vote from a bit more mature females.

Here's my comparisons with years past:

Michael John's was this years “Constantine (Lt. Dan)” They both did well on Queen songs and were considered to be “good looking” by an older female population (Older is not bad....it means not the teeny boppers)

Kristy is this years “Diana Degarmo.” She sings well but her song choice cost her early on. If she keeps things up and picks the right songs she could go as high as the top 3.

Castro is Sanjaya (not that flaming fag from who didn't make the top 12). The Ashley Ferls are splitting the vote between him and David Archuletta. He has no real substance but can carry a tune so he keeps on keeping on even past his prime.

David Cook is Chris Daughtry “lite.” A Rocker dude who could win this if the votes work out right.

Brooke is Katharine McPhee without the extreme “hotness.” She sings OK and does well enough to keep in it but can she win? Probably not.

Carly is like a female Scott Sevol. She has an OK voice on certain songs but falls flat on many others. She keeps getting in the bottom 3 but manages to keep it up week after week. Her unattractive features (tats and angry face) like Scott's weight and lumbering about on stage is wearing thin with many of us.

Syesha is Paris. Both have squeaky voices and can sing pretty well but are “overlooked” because they only appeal to a certain demographic.

I suspect that each week Jason thinks to himself, “I didn’t get voted off? Hey, that’s cool.” He’s in the Top SEVEN now, for cryin out loud! It appears that he’s just riding the wave, picking out songs each week that he figures suit him, and then just waits to see what happens. In no way does he come across as believing this is the greatest thing that has ever happened, or will ever happen, in his life. I kind of get the feeling that he sees this more as a game than anything else.

I agree with most of your post. The only exception is this:

Kristy is this years “Diana Degarmo.” She sings well but her song choice cost her early on. If she keeps things up and picks the right songs she could go as high as the top 3.

I don't really see Kristy performing on Broadway and I think Diana has a much better voice and she can sing in many genres while Kristy seems limited to country.

He's very young, and needs to "find" himself, musically. He needs to be honest with himself and ask, "Is mainstream success REALLY what I want?"

You make an outstanding point. Regarding the finalists, Amanda and Kristy are the only two where you know what their musical point-of-view are. Amanda is an old-school rocker, and Kristy is pop country. I'd include Monchichi, but his father exercises too much artistic control. Cook is a rocker, but he swings between hard rock, pop rock and alt rock - he needs to choose his path and run with it. Regarding the rest, I really don't know where they're coming from - only what they're trying to conform to. That philosophy rarely breeds success.

I'd discuss how the show's format is hindering artistic development, but that's a rant for another day.....

I think the judges should be consistent with all the contestants. They shouldn't expect some contestants to change up songs and not others and they shouldn't expect some to move out of their 'comfort zone' and not the others.

Plus some get told they sound the same every week, like Simon said to Amanda, but others get a pass when they sound the same every week.

‘American Idol’ Elimination Shocker: Michael Johns’ Dreams Dashed, As Carly Smithson And Syesha Mercado Squeak By
Australian’s surprising ouster causes even Simon Cowell grief.

http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1585223/20080411/jordin_sparks.jhtml

Judge Paula Abdul was shocked, too, and told the singer she was “a fan” of his. The dismissal was met with an immediate wave of booing from the audience, where Johns’ friends, family and legions of female fans reacted to the news. Brooke White was bummed, David Archuleta seemed bored, and David Cook looked as though he’d just found out his dog had died. And perhaps the most surprising reaction came from stoic judge Simon Cowell, who broke character and told Johns he’d miss his presence on the show. Having prepared herself for bad news all night, Smithson clung to Mercado for comfort when she realized she’d won a second chance at stardom.

Good analysis, Tony..I think that Kristy has already made her bones..that is she's assured of getting signed to a country label...and she'll be a hit on tour.

Anyone ever see any stats as to what % of AI votes are phoned in vs. being texted. Sems to me that the youngsters are mnore prone to texting, and it's easier to get the votes in that way, and more of them..

But, don't they charge for text votes, while dialed votes are free?

I disagree. I was just reading some of the blogs and there were a few comments on Jason's behavior. Many feel that he is just bewildered by all this hoopla because he's really just a shy church-going kid who plays music. (I don't think he's a druggie, either.) Someone said that he was off by himself during MJ's song and that KLC pulled him into the group...that he was sad and shocked because MJ was like a big brother and his roomie.

On "Shout to the Lord," one poster wrote that Fox being owned by Murdoch who loves Bush (???) who is a Christian was why they did that theme. Other comments stated that Idol Gives Back was about Africans, who are Muslims, so why sing Christian tunes? (rolling eyes)
