Just an FYI about Jason Castro from someone who does not know him, but who does live in the Dallas area where he grew up —

Here are some (mostly YouTube links) from local sources.

A Dallas TV spot from several weeks ago, with pictures before the dreads, in which he’s described as an athlete and “merit scholar”:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=p6MtCKtWmQY&feature=related

From the student newspaper at Texas A&M (which, by the way, is one of, and perhaps the most, conservative public universities in the nation):
http://media.www.thebatt.com/media/storage/paper657/news/2008/03/19/Aggielife/Jason.Castro.Unique.And.Talented-3274574.shtml

An on-campus interview done pre-Idol:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=SXOxhdavogM&feature=related

And a pre-Idol video of him playing at (conservative and evangelical) Lake Pointe Church in Rockwall, his home congregation.

Perhaps the perception of Castro as a dumbed-down pothead should be reconsidered.

Jolene is great--that would be a perfect fit for Brooke. I imagine her playing the accoustic guitar with it.

I like "Coat of Many Colors" too, but (no offense to Brooke) nobody can sing that like Dolly.

Thanks...what no “9 to 5?” So how are these songs? I only know two of them.

David A. - Smoky Mountain Memories
Well, its just my opinion but I find Smoky Mountain Memories a bit too slow and boring.

Syesha - I Will Always Love You
One of my favorites. I hope Syesha does Dolly's version and not Whitney's. She could pull it off if she takes her time and doesn't rush it.

Carly - Here You Come Again
Kind of a safe pick for Carly.

Kristy Lee Cook - Coat of Many Colors
I like this song and its probably a decent choice for her, but I wish she would have done Mule Skinner Blues. I think its a fun song and if she pulled it off would guarantee her several more weeks.

Ramiele - Do I Ever Cross Your Mind?
I cannot imagine Ramiele doing this song at all.

Michael Johns - It’s All Wrong, But It’s All Right
This is a great song and probably an excellent choice for Johns.

Jason Castro - Travelin Thru
This song was used in the movie Transamerica. Should be an ok pick for him.

Brooke White - Jolene
Another favorite of her early songs. I hope Brooke sings it as written and doesn't slow it down or remove the energy from the song. I hope she stays true to Dolly's version and NOT Mindi Smith's. I'm going to include another link here from one of Dolly's concerts where she sings Jolene, but before she sings she talks a bit and is pretty funny. Warning though, this link comes on LOUDER than blazes. But, she is so funny!

David Cook - Little Sparrow
This is a nice song, and I can't wait to see if David Cook is really sing this and if so how he does. This particular link is th ebest I could find for sound of Dolly singing this song, but the vid is a tribute to Gabrielle from Zena the Princess Warrior! lol

I'm sorry to hear that. From what little I saw of her on TV she seemed like a very nice and gentle person.

I agree, Jonny. This is so sad. Misterrob, Elliott's and your extended family have my sincere condolences.

I hope they don’t make them sing truncated versions of the songs. I hate that. It doesn’t do the songs justice at all. There are 10 of them, if they each get 3 minutes taht 30 minutes. Not sure how they will fit all their commercials and clips of Dolly helping them into the other half hour. i wish they could have gone an extra half hour on this show.

I wish...that was the April Fool’s list...she’s singing “Jolene.” What’s that like?

Well we have two lists of who is singing what.

Coat of Many Colors is on the first list for Brooke but I think that is wrong and the second list is correct. On the second list Kristy Lee Cook is singing it. She would do better with Jolene and Brooke would do better with Coat. So ... I withdraw my prediction.

In any case you've heard Jolene. It goes something like this:

Jooooooleeeeeeeeeen, Jooooooleeeeeeeeeen, ...
