Well dang. I wonder if I’m jinxing these losing contestants.

First I was all gung ho for Amanda, then she gets booted. Then I choose Chikezie as my fav...and he gets sent home.

Maybe next week I’ll go for Jason or Ramielle as my fav... ;)

Not Jason, please!! I like the goofy kid. ;-) Choose Raman noodle girl or Sayesha.

I shouldn't complain though. This little brush with liberalism doesn't compare with what you have to endure in California every day.

Yeah, our Marxist legislature spends all its time trying to figure out ever more ingenious ways to tax us into the ground, tie us ever more firmly to Mexico, and otherwise screw us royally. Although I can't do it until at least next spring, I'm seriously thinking of moving to a little town called Kanab, Utah. My cousin and best friend lives in Salt Lake City. Kanab is about 200 miles south of SLC, but we'd be closer than we are now.

One of the nation's most unique animal sanctuaries is seven miles north of Kanab. It's a place of last resort for domestic and wild animals. They've helped some of our soldiers rescue dogs in Iraq and bring them to home to the soldiers' families here in the U.S. They also rescue a lot of the animals left stranded by natural disasters in the U.S. I'd like to be part of such efforts in some way, even if it's only as a volunteer foster home for the dogs until they could get settled in a family. Of couse, it will depend on whether or not I could find a job in such a small town or at the sanctuary.

I love California and have a real connection to the Pacific. But Kanab is only 400 miles from L.A., so it would be easy for me to visit once or twice a year. As long as I could get out to Catalina Island once a year or so, I'd be happy.

But this is all just a maybe and in the future. Depends very much on my getting a job here soon so that I could rebuild my savings.

Hey, you’re on a roll!

Re: Amanda. Many people of all ages were sorry to see her leave, because she was very real, and not a ringer, like some others we won’t mention (faux-preggers anchor-baby-mama).

My daughter has a regular customer in her restaurant in NYC who is a retired nurse. She was CRAZY about Amanda. She told my daughter that she cried herself to sleep the night Amanda was booted off!

Forgive me, but I think someone seriously needs to get a life.

No, she has a life. She’s in her late sixties, does church and community work, but lives alone with her cats and kind of “adopted” Amanda. She said Amanda gave nurses a good image...you know, not mean ole Nurse Ratchets. LOL!

You don’t know how emotional people can get when they have an AI favorite.

P.S. I think Amanda should have stayed longer than Syesha and Ramiele.

I also get into the Idol contestants but I have never cried myself to sleep over any of them getting booted.

I agree with you as to Ramiele, but I think Syesha has an overall better voice than did Amanda. At least I guess it goes to one's personal music preferences. I just didn't get into Amanda's Janis Joplin routine. And the hair, but then let's not talk about Castro's dreads. Yuch!

Well, hopefully they’ll bring Amanda back with the “wild card” thing....

One can only hope... :)

“Bugs” is this years “Sanjaya.” (Yeah, I know Danny Noreiga was called “Danjaya” but he didn’t make the top 12.)

The little teeny boopers must vote for him because they think he’s “cute” or something. They forget that this is supposed to be about singing.

I liked Chimpanzee...errr...Chikezie and thought he should have lasted a lot longer. He was boring this week but he was awesome on the first Beatles’ week. The guy had some pipes at least. He also seemed like a really nice guy.

Oh well...

I’ll jump in here....
I posted this on the Dinosaur Media death watch thread....

“It is fashionable here to bash all net work TV but there is an exception....American Idol. I began watching It a year or so back and continue today. It is not as interesting to me this year, but there is enough interest on FRee Repubic to generate a live thread.
Idol is a major hit because it offers viewers of all ages what most TV does not..... something interesting, something entertaining and an opportunity to participate. There is an opportunity to select a favorite, pull for him/her and have a part in their success. The contestants become American success stories because of viewer efforts

Idol attracts as many as a hundred thousand wannabes across the nation to auditions. Many are ridiculous but many are genuine talent. Separating the wheat from the chaff offers good TV.

Those selected “Go to Hollywood” To hone their talents at the feet of industry pros and are given opportunities beyond their ordinary dreams and capabilities. The total resources of the News Corp/ Fox studios/network are brought to bear on the effort. The Fox organization has tremendous capabilities and to focus these abilities on the Idol production generates results....truly outstanding results.

Ford And Coca Cola pony up very big bucks. Each judge has a coke at hand, all the time. Ford allows the contestants to be featured in made for Idol videos..... commercials. The experience of participating is the production of a major full blown, no unpulled stops, commercial featuring your face and singing is an unparalleled opportunity.

In coming weeks there will be a feature where Idol raises money. Exxon....that is perhaps the biggest of the world’s corporations has a hand in backing this effort. There are also tons of stars helping out and rubbing shoulders with the Idol contestants. Last year, the show raised 76 million $$$. That is major league fund raising in any body’s book.

Lastly there is the voting. Each contestant has a dedicated phone and text messaging line to which viewers call to vote. The bottom vote getters are eliminated. The number of votes always exceeds 30 million. That is there are efforts made by viewers to vote more than 30 million times. Votes are attracted from all over the world. Last year an Indian/American attracted many votes from his ancestral India. He was bad but had mega vote gathering ability.

The success is measured in the tens of millions. an excess of 30 million votes week after week after week. In excess of $75 million in funds raised and distributed is Success with a capital S.

The winnowing has reduced the nunber to 9. You can have part by watching, selecting one of the outstanding young Americans to be for, vote and then watch the results...... It is not ordinary TV”

Here’s the thread it might be of interest.....

If I recall correctly, they have the votes set up by time zones and area codes so you can only vote for the two hours after the show airs in your time zone.

There has always been at least one contestant each year that goes farther than a majority thinks they should. John Stevens? Kevin Covais? Scott Sovol? Jasmine Trias?

Yeah, which I don't think can be said of several of the remaining contestants. But like you said...oh well.

It is fashionable here to bash all net work TV but there is an exception....American Idol.

Well hi there, bert. Long time, no chat on FR threads. Thanks for your fine summary of why AI is so successful. All it is, really, is 21st Century version of a bit of old vaudeville, a bit of early TV variety show, and a bit of the long tradition of talent show all rolled into one. Like you said, it's clean entertainment for all ages.

The only fly in the ointment this years is that the AI powers that be decided to pack the top 50 with ringers. Here's an article on the subject that you might find interesting: The Truth About the Contestants of American Idol 7

In my opinion, AI still works despite the ringers, except this is a pretty bland bunch this year.

Wow.
That’s a very eye-opening link.

Funny how, despite every effort to ‘sell’ Carly, she’s hardly the big hot thing.
Hubby’s tats don’t help. ::: shudder :::

Neither does Kristy Lee Cook singing in front of that Confederate flag!
