Thank you .... you wouldn’t believe how long it took for me to make that post. LOL

I had several sample tables saved on my old computer. I couldn’t find them; they must be gone forever.

That is a great idea.

When I started having trouble with my computer, I emailed some genealogy emails to my son so I wouldn’t lose them.

"Now all I ahve to do is figure out where I’m going to put it! LOL"

GG, you have to look no further! Everything will fit right here, at my place! ;-)

Does anyone here remember the bare root cellars? Every year, in early February, my girlfriends and I would make a day of it. We would go to a really fancy lunch, (even have a glass of wine), and then all go to what we had been dreaming of all winter - The BARE ROOT CELLAR!

Ahhh, the smell of the earth! We would walk down the stairs, into the dark, damp, cold room, full of saplings, budding spring bushes, trees, forcing out tiny leaves! Forsythias already starting their bloom.

Our carts filled up, after much contemplation and decision making, deciding where we would plant all our purchases.

Inhale! One last time 'til next year! OMG, it was heaven on earth for all of us! I can STILL smell it, after all these years!

*click* Wake up, yorkie! That was years ago! Sorry folks!

We ordered 230 J&P bare root roses for this year. They are all potted and leafing out. I was telling someone else on another thread—I can remember when we bought 25 max from another local nursery to resell!

Sat was great until the storm from you know where hit Sat eve. My rat terrorist that’s afraid of storms did a number on my bedroom wall. We went out to eat, thot we’d be back in time to give her a pill. She tore the molding off the foorframe, dug into the sheetrock, and pulled some wallpaper off. I was tempted to strangle her on the spot. We fixed it, lucky for her!

I don’t remember root cellars, but I love the smell of fresh earth/greenhouse! It’s like marsh mud—the primal essence of life.

"marsh mud—the primal essence of life."

GG, that is a most PERFECT description of the Bare Root Cellar!

I don’t think we had root cellars here. The local nurseries have bare root trees and roses that they put out in February. They are in large tubs of wood shavings.

I have been planning to buy some Begonias; they have 10 Begonias for $30.00. I also want to try som Echinacea. I have never planted Echinacea so this will be a new experience.

I think I will get on the phone tomorrow. I need to get these in the ground.

The smell seems to be one you love/hate. Doesn’t seem to be any in between. Even the kindergarden kids are very emphatic, one way or the other.

Just let the dogs in/out. Sposed to be 38 last night. Looking at my heavily frosted windshield, I’d venture to say that a lot of people will be replacing the tomato plants they set out yest. Early Easter makes a l-o-n-g season for us.

What kind of begonias? We don’t sell many anymore, except the red leafed variety that takes a lot of heat. Echinnacea does pretty good here, and they have lots of new colors/shapes. Have fun!

All--- In case you missed it elsewhere... WW2 Vet, Wheelbarrow, our NE Ohio family friend, aged 83 was part of a really really good video that was shot a few weeks ago. about 6+ hours of shooting time translates into 4 minute or so video.

Bill & DollyCali at Walter Reed w/DC Freepers Friday night(above) and below at Bethesda

It was played in church in front of about 500.

Afterward the minister mentioned Bill , his age etc & he got a rousing set of cheers & round of applause. Bill is retired from the business world and is a WW2 vet & recipient of Bronze Star.

He has been a widower two times & now frequents weekly single dances & meetings & is a patriot & gentlemen

Posting to a few ATRW & Misc. friends so I dont have to spam the same post at "too many" threads

I am hoping that soon things will settle down so I can spend more time at threads I truly enjoy.(this one).

I must get dogs out (procrastinating as it is pouring.. VERY HARD)..lots of flooding in valley below. My walk today with John & his two dogs will be very VERY soupy, if we go

Amy thanks for the reminder of my anniversary day.. I recall it well. It was before the war started & I was going to various Glenn Beck Rally for America Rallies. I went on line searching for information on the one at Valley Forge THE NEXT DAY & up came the FR link to a thread on it.

I had to register to “talk with people” there & as they say, the rest is history. I met a lot of FReepers that day but didn’t know it til later when I went home & went through pictures & got to know people.

I almost did NOT go as my ride decided against going an hour before the trip (which was started at midnight) - it is a long way from Cleveland to Valley Forge) & I had next to no money for gas. We were going to share expenses. . It was a miracle (I really mean that) that I got home. God’s grace manifests in so many ways.. This day it was a stranger I helped on the road, with a ride to his home from his stranged car in the highway...who INSISTED I take $20 which translated into money for gas home.

A lot of up & downs here at the forum but it is resplendent with wonderful people, good minds & creative thought.

Don’t you just love the old guys?! We have a lot of loafers at my garden center. Many vets. We’ve lost a bunch in the last few years. :( They have great stories.

Your dogs will go out in the rain? LOL I have rat terrorists—they’re worse than cats!

I’m not sure of the type. This is from their web site ...

Giant Upright Begonia Mix, set of 10

The best seed-grown begonias give you far-superior blooms.

They’re bigger - these tubers are a full ½” larger than store-bought begonias, and they produce huge 6”-9” blooms on 24” stalks. They’re better - the flowers are consistently more uniform than other begonias and 15% more fully double. And, they’re more abundant - with twice as many bloom stems as common begonias that supply loads of shade-brightening color. Includes a mix of 10 tubers, shipped to one address: 2 Duke of Orange; 2 Royale; 2 Maid of Honor; 2 Sunburst; 1 Inca Princess; and 1 Bridal Satin. Please note: tubers are packaged as a mix and not labeled with individual variety names.
All zones (lift in fall) / Shipped as tubers / Full to partial shade

Item No. 30697A

Wow! They look cool! Catalogs are so much fun. Problem is—the difference between what’s in the catalog and what actually grows in your garden is like the difference between the honeymoon and the marriage!

Withness

Being with someone is special.
Connectedness is king.
The person that you’re being with,
Can make you want to sing.

Remember when you were a child,
You held your father’s hand?
For feeling safe and wonderful,
Nothing was more grand.

Certain people make us feel,
The world’s a better place,
By standing there beside us,
With something hard to face.

They don’t have to be that brave,
Or ready for the task.
They just have to be there,
For anything we ask.

You, too, can be that someone,
The person standing there,
When someone else needs company,
For something tough to share.

And there’s a loving feeling,
That comes with it, of course,
The touch of someone’s hand in yours,
Will give your strength more force.

So you can face together,
What’s difficult alone.
A burden shared is lightened,
And friendship’s seeds are sown.

With luck, there’s more than friendship,
That you may find this way,
A good companion to be with,
Much longer than a day.

A lifetime being with someone,
No matter that it ends.
Their love will still be with you,
When you are more than friends.

With time, with love, with everything,
Your share of withness brings,
Your life of lonely Winters,
Will always end with Springs.
