They show some background video before he performs. Simon telling him that he needs to "work a heck of a lot harder if you even have a chance at winning this."
David tells the camera: "My challenge now is to prove Simon wrong."
He sings "Midnight Hour". A Gospel-ized version of the song.
Randy: Liked the Gospel vibe. Kinda fell apart at the end. Way to start the show!
Paula: Brilliant vocals.
Simon: Actually better than I thought it was going to be. Loosen up a bit. Very stiff, very nervous.
