The Hobbit Hole XXXV - ...is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

Posted on 01/03/2008 6:35:58 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

The feeling is kinda like the water in the nose when swimming; the big difference is that it doesn't go all the way up like it does when swimming. And it flows right through, and you can breathe while it's happening, so it doesn't burn. It does take a little getting used to, but it's amazing just how good it feels to not have that post nasal drip and having to be clearing my throat all the time. I'm gonna have to tell my sister about it; she has terrible problems with allergies and her sinuses.

I just ordered a plastic Neti Pot for when I travel, and some Neti Pot Salt, just to have that with me, too.

Slight medical emergency last night when I had to take my mom over to check on her sister, who hadn't responded to phone calls for the last 24 hours. It sounded sort of grim, so I just bundled my mom into the truck, and made the 30 minute drive to my aunt's house, arriving about 6:45PM.

There are lights on in the house, but no response to me ringing the doorbell. I had the keys to the house, but the storm door was locked from the inside. It's dark out, and I don't want the neighbors to look out to see someone trying to break in, so I called the cops.

They arrived 10 minutes later, and I gave them permission to force open the storm door. Unfortunately, they had no tools to do it, so I grabbed the CRKT MAK10 I had secreted in my truck.

Once inside, we find her on the floor where she had apparently fallen. She was awake and responsive, but somewhat confused. My own educated non-medical guess is she let her blood sugar get too low. She's in the hospital now (the first time in her 82 years) undergoing tests to determine if she was hurt, and what the underlying cause may be.

It was hectic, but everything was caught in time. And I'm mighty proud to have that rescue tool in my truck. I gave away my BK3 Tactool to one of the troops, but I kept the CRKT after I bought one for evaluation purposes. It's not the ideal tool for breaching purposes, but it popped open the storm door.

It was sheer luck that I drove my truck, rather than taking my mom in her car, because I had the tool when it was needed. Now I'm buying another one to stash away in her car, too.

Actually, "Eli Stone" hasn't been that bad. But, I doubt it will last more than a few episodes. It's a little too quirky.

I can't get past the fact that Johnny Lee Miller is all grown up! You might recall that delightfully bad film back in the 90's.... Hackers... silly film but he was great. Great soundtrack, too. He up and married Angelina Jolie right thereafter.

The lightning bolt will short out everything in DC.

Not that there's anything wrong with that....

You’re just a regular Inspector Gadget...

Glad you found your aunt safe. Prayers for a quick recovery.

Hey, I’m joyous. I took the day off.

I’m less joyous about all the frap I have to do around here. But also less stressed about getting it done.

Wow winmag! So glad you and your mom were alert to know she needed help! Good job.

I once had to help a cop break into my house in college when I was locked out... I ended up thinking “what did I call him for?”

We’re having some kind of medical emergency here with Barkley. He started bellering in bed. Every time he tried to get up he’d holler in the way only a beagle can. It seems like left front leg. We forced him up and forced him to walk around a bit, thinking he’d just slept wrong on it and it was asleep, and he is something of a drama queen, but it’s gone on longer than that now and he’s in a lot of pain. So we’re heading out here to be at the vet’s office when they open at 7:30

Oh dear...wonder what happened?

He was OK last night, wasn’t he?

Did my dog break your dog?

*fretting*

Let us know what the vet says!

Vet said he probably pinched a nerve or pulled a muscle in his neck, and that’s causing it to radiate down his leg and look like it’s the leg that hurts.

Gosh it’s a pitiful thing, he bellers if you try to move him.

I didn’t even see them playing that much last night... not as much as usual. Maybe he just slept on it wrong.

He’s on Morphine and muscle relaxers and a Rimadyl. And he’s on crate rest. If he doesn’t get better by monday she’ll take xrays.

Yeah...for whatever reason none of them played much last night. Mostly just everyone was pacing. Endlessly. :-\

Well gee...doesn't sound like fun. Poor Barkley!

Did they look at that lump while he was there?

Yeah - I thought that might be what was causing it... because he seems to be limping on that side... I thought maybe it was what was pinching a nerve or something.

She doesn’t want to take it out. She said it’s in a bad place for the surgery to heal, because they move it too much. So leave it alone unless it really becomes a problem.
