I was on a 5:45 PM flight from Atlanta to Newark, NJ on Delta tonight. As I went to my seat in row 44, I passed by a young man in fatigues (he was in row 42) and, as any Freeper would do, thanked him for his service and asked him if he was going to be home for the holidays. He said "yes I will be" and I wished him a merry Christmas and took my seat.
As we were landing, the flight attendant said that we had a young army man just back from Iraq who was coming home to his wife and two kids for the holidays and could we all remain seated so he could get off the plane first.
The entire plane erupted in applause (he was a bit embarrassed in his humility), but when the plane got to the gate NO ONE MOVED and he got off first to ANOTHER round of applause.
We flew to Phoenix via Salt Lake City from Bend Oregon to watch the Checker Auto Parts 500 in November.
Delta’s hanger had a huge American Flag painted on it - had to be 30’ x 50’.
The way things oaught to be.
Best feeling in the world.......same thing happened to me when I came back from Desert Storm ...... people were applauding, thanking me etc ..... awesome human experience all should participate in giving and receiving.
Very embarrassing then as I was caught waaaaay off guard and surprised ......as I also came home in 73 from a TDY overseas to a very different reception ......one where I was ordered to change into civies before I could board a commercial flight back home.
That was bad.......Americas change of heart was present when we came home back in 91 and I am very happy America is still doing this for those troops taking their turn in the barrel.....One can not imagine what such does for our troops returning home.
A memory I will take to my grave that makes me smile too this day.
Thank You for being part of that for that troop.....Stay safe !
Prayers that this young man and his family have a wonderful Christmas together. And Merry Christmas to you and yours.
A wonderful thing to hear of. This just shows that the left wing moonbats ARE NOT where this country is, and if the traitorous liberals in the congress believe that for a second, they do so at their own political peril.
Yea, I was flying from Ft. Knox to Ft. Bliss, and the airlines gave me a 1st Class upgrade for free. This was in April of 2006. I was in ACU’s.
How awesome! What a country, indeed.
10:00 PM on 12/12/07 BUMP!!!!!!
Every time an American warrior is honored, a baby Democrat cries.
Wow. This is very moving. Thank you so much for sharing. It just warms my heart. I was already crying from listening to the Josh Groban link and then this. I’m going to bed with a warm heart and tears of gratitude in my eyes. Thank you.
Wonderful! Thanks for sharing.
hope Reid, Pelosi, Kennedy, Kerry and gang read this. It will spoil their holidays
America's best are appreciated by those with common sense.
We are forever indebted to those who made sacrifices over the years, and do so today, while the Utopians ignore reality.
Thank you sooooo much for sharing this wonderful story with us. That just made my day!!
I too, will be making a similar trip from Iraq early next week for a holiday R & R. What a great story. What a great start to that soldiers visit home, God Bless all those on that flight for giving that soldier the respect that he deserves.
Merry Christmas to All.
LOL!! Leave it to you to put a smile into a BUMP...
I’ve been on several flights that this same event occurred. My guess is the airline pilots are mostly recruited from the military, but I’m always pleased when this happens.
Thank You for your service, and have a Blessed Merry Christmas with your family!
Godspeed to you, and Merry Christmas to your and your family.
