NEW YORK -- An international panel of retired pilots and aviation officials has risked ridicule by sharing their personal stories of close encounters with unidentified flying objects, and urging the U.S. government to reopen its investigation into extra-terrestrial spacecraft.
Among the UFO incidents discussed by the gathering in Washington this week was an alleged sighting of a triangular-shaped flying machine with unfamiliar markings near the former U.S. air base at RAF Woodbridge in Suffolk, England, in 1980.
"Nothing in my training prepared me for what we were witnessing," James Penniston, a retired U.S. Air Force pilot, told the panel.

No, just unidentified.
Is this the same alien that tried to convince Rush Limbaugh to run for President??
I would stop short of calling UFO’s extra terrestrial until clear and convincing evidence confirmed that. However, I find it very disturbing, indeed, that every report of UFO sightings is reported by newscasters with a snide smile on their faces, as if they know the truth and can easily laugh at the poor fools who made the report. If they can explain what was sighted, let them do so. If not, wipe the smiles off and seek and explanation. Seems simple, doesn’t it?
“Nothing in my training prepared me for what we were witnessing,” James Penniston, a retired U.S. Air Force pilot, told the panel. He said the UFO, with “blue and yellow lights swirling around the exterior”, was “warm to the touch and felt like metal.”

Umm, he touched it? In the presence of 80 witnesses? As it hovered close to the ground, or did he open his canopy mid-flight? Did the wings of his aircraft get in the way?
Is he a real retired Air Force pilot, or a fake, like some of those medal winners and Iraqi war criminal veterans? Or did the publication make him up out of whole cloth?
Inquiring minds WANT to know.
Does anyone have that picture of Rush Limbaugh meeting space aliens? It was in one of those rags that Bush is holding. It was about 10 years ago.
Inquiring minds WANT to know............Then read about what realy happened, he touched it while it was on the ground and yes he is as legitamate as ever.
Now I’m thinking, it landed on a base and only 80 people saw it?
It was 2 days after Christmas, late at night and it landed in a remote area of forest, but no, 80 people saw it but only one or 2 others saw him touch it and were then told to lie about what they saw, as if they didn’t see it. The pilot in question at the time was on security that night if I am not mistaken.

Well, I watched this Discovery video. James Penniston is a retired police (MP?) sergeant not a pilot. In the video he describes the object as pyramidal, not triangular (small quibble) and does not mention touching it (big quibble). And there were not 80 witnesses to that particular incident, although perhaps in total over three days that many reported strange lights, etc. Also gouged trees and ground.
There is also a James Halt, an officer, who reports witnessing it a few days later, not that an officer is necessarily more reliable. But apparently the MPs had kept it to themselves the first time, because it was new to him. Sounds like a thing to report, IMO.
I guess you could have something hidden on a base and not seen by many, because large parts were forested. I was just thinking of the airfields and buildings. But the things were supposedly zipping around in the sky.
And of course the things were radar-invisible, but why bother with that when you are visible to light, and can disappear in the blink of an eye? And the officer had a Geiger counter with him, but not a camera.
This was 1980 during the height of the cold war and lots of nukes stored at the air base. I can understand the geiger counter.
Well sure. But if you have the presence of mind to grab that, grab a camera!
.. .. . ..so it must have been on COAST TO COAST, eh?
Swing away, (Art) Bellhops.

About the media reporting the way they do, it's been that way for a long time. There are cases on record of the FCC actually threatening the licenses of stations who were about to air series ufo stories.
The humor keeps the giggle factor going and pushes people like this to the fringe kook, tin-foil hat status rather than have to face the fact that science should be looking at this topic.
Forge space aliens, what if it is top secret tech, why is is buzzing airliners, etc?
NORAD has an abundance of uncorrelated targets every day on their radars? Lets start by IDing those. IMO
Thx.
