We’ve just passed the 15-year mark in our house; I’ve lived here longer than any other place. We’re done the kitchen once, and it’s due for a MUCH more extensive reworking. The roof hasn’t got much left to give, so THAT job’s on the horizon. I’ll probably add a pair of skylights in the Living Room concurrent with the re-roofing. We’ve added on almost 500 sq. ft. including a large Family Room with attic storage, a walk-in closet, and a Master Bathroom with a jetted spa tub. We’ve changed the landscaping three or four times (or is it five?), and the back lawn is currently begging to be over-seeded.
The list of things we HAVEN’T changed would probably be shorter.

Yes, it’s been a very hard day.
We think he had a stroke over night.
He brought up his dinner some time over night, and could hardly stand this morning. The sound of him trying to walk is what woke me up this morning, around 5:30.
He managed to urinate on the deck, and get back in, but then he couldn’t stay standing. DH carried him back to his bed. He never got up again.
He took a bit of water. We tried offering him some scrambled eggs, (one of his favourites), but he licked at it just once.
He was the best Dog.
My daughter came over around noon, and the vet left around 12:45.

I am so terribly sorry. Axel was beautiful, and I know how damn hard it is to to face this.
Fifteen years is such a long time to have such a friend. When I was young, a seven or eight year old dog or cat was pitifully geriatric- modern medicine and diet have helped immensely, but they still slip away far too soon.
Wife Miss Emily sends you her kindest wishes, too.
