The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Oooo! Pretty!! Since our big tree and all the ornaments are packed up, I bought a small, 4 1/2’ tree and am going to put it in a big container I had for outside, but never used. This will get it up off the floor another 1-1/2’. And I bought a few 2-1/2” blown glass balls, some a poinsettia design, a couple of emerald green, and a couple of champagne gold ones. I also found a set of smaller deep red balls that match the red in the poinsettias. Then Joseph and I went over to Crate and Barrel the other day, and I got special ornaments for each of the kids, and one for SirKit and me. So we’ll have some nice ornaments without it being the ‘600’ of the old ones, as David likes to moan when we’re decorating the big tree. ;o)

Remove fully decorated three foot tree from closet.

Heh. Whether we build or remodel a house, one of the things I want in it is a TALL closet so that I can do just what you were saying. Put the tree on wheels, decorate it, then after Christmas, wheel it right into the closet ready for the next year. I ain't gettin any younger, and I don't relish the thought of having to climb up on a ladder putting on lights and decorating the tree each year. I'll do it once, and enjoy it for years!

Why does work have to blow up right now?

In my line of work, that's funny right there.

Frankly, it's questionable.

Yes - it’s a guy! It’s a culty-kitch commercial for a silly exercise thingy called a gazelle. The commercial is in the same league as “Head On! Apply Directly to the Forehead!” You can doooo-it!

Boot camp is not exactly a place for the uncoordinated to shine. ;-) I did really well on the *one* written test we had to take (missed one question, as I recall), but I couldn’t march worth doodly, I had trouble making my shirts into perfect squares like we were s’posed to, I sometimes ended up with buttons in the wrong place, I fell into every single water obstacle on the obstacle course...etc.

That sounds much like my experience in Basic. Except that I could ace minor topics like marksmanship and scored in the 99th percentile on written tests. But no matter how hard I tried, I looked and marched like a loser. Maybe that's why the Senior Drill Sergeant kept asking me if I'd be happier going to OCS.
