The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Today is also the day I enlisted. Umpteen years ago.

Pffft - that makes you sound old or sumptin.

It's a good anniversary to celebrate, tho!

It *does* make me feel old to think I was already a grownup, more or less, thirteen (!!) years ago.

I always look back and laugh at the girl I was back then. I knew *everything*. LOL - it’s nearly comic.

I was...naive. To say the least. And really worried about doing everything wrong...which I pretty much did.

Boot camp is not exactly a place for the uncoordinated to shine. ;-) I did really well on the *one* written test we had to take (missed one question, as I recall), but I couldn’t march worth doodly, I had trouble making my shirts into perfect squares like we were s’posed to, I sometimes ended up with buttons in the wrong place, I fell into every single water obstacle on the obstacle course...etc.

Tech school was much better...heh.

Did you do boot camp at Keesler?

There isn’t boot camp at Keesler. Boot camp for Air Force takes place entirely at Lackland in TX — near San Antonio.

I did do tech training at Keesler, though.

Hey, at least it was a good time of year to be in Texas!

Yep...mostly stayed cool.

Did mean I was there for Christmas and New Year’s...but since it didn’t feel like Christmas, it wasn’t so bad. ;-)

Thank goodness there’s no boot camp at Keesler. Can you imagine that during the summer? I think a LOT of folks in the Army in WWII went through boot camp at Shelby, just south of Hattiesburg. That place IS brutal in the summer!

Just for fun...

Was corresponding with a colleague a moment ago about my Christmas decorating scheme this year ('cuz I usually go all out...)

Not only am I taking it easy, I'm doing an Oaxacan color scheme. If you squint your eyes at this pic, you'll get a sense of what the tree will look like:

It should irrrrrrrrrritate the folks who don't like my cooking. :P :P :P :P

My tree decorating: go to closet. Remove fully decorated three foot tree from closet. Put on table, plug in. Voila.

Heh, just head a Huckabee ad.
“Mike Huckabee, strong Christian leader. Mike Huckabee was named one of the best governors by Time Magazine.”

Hah! What a way to reach for credibility and then throw it right in the trash in two sentences.

Speakin' of Mexico...

There is a Heeeeeee-larious political ad on the radio round these parts done by the challenger to our RINO congress critter Gilchrest. While the voice over is running down the laundry list of idiot things the idiot has done, there's Mexican folk music playing in the bkg. The idiot voted for amnesty, so viva la musica!

Speaking of Christmas, I finally got around to figuring out how much time I have available, and it looks like I could swing a visit to brother in SF...I’m thinking I’m gonna go for it. Gotta recheck tickets tonight, but he’s already said the dates work for him...I’m thinking the 21st through the 26th.
