Heh. It was Mister Darcy who was begging turkey all afternoon. I guess my turkey got two paws up!
The only problem with the Friday return is that I only got to see Brother (who’s been at werk all week) and Family on Thursday.

The lil' guy is getting two afghans because it took so long to find sport-weight yarn in primary colors. I started off with this navy one:
It's done in Bernat Satin Sport and feels really nice. It coordinates with the boppy pillow/slip cover combo I got for them (this was the baby shower gift... but I wasn't invited. harumph)
Then I found primary color yarn! It's not very good quality and I don't expect the blanket to last long, but hey - the little guy is going to spit up on it and pee and all that good stuff, so it's all ok. This is the one that I've been trying to finish up in and around NaNoWrimo. Didn't get the last ends tucked until just this morning over breakfast. teehee I think I'm just going to hand-carry this one to the hospital and not bother with wrapping it up.

Maybe I’ll get some transcription done. I wrote six pages yesterday, which should add another 2500 or so. I didn’t write the day before.
And I’m still frustrated by my lack of knowledge regarding police procedures. Questioning of witnesses now. When, where, by whom. Maybe I’ll run to the bookstore tonight and see what they’ve got for references.

I’m still only about halfway through the one for Bertie. And I’m a little late to the game, in any case. ;-) But at least it’ll be a good first Christmas present!
I like that bright yellow! Ya know...*now* I find out that thenewniece apparently is already showing a preference for yellow. She’d probably LOVE that blanket. But I have white and a blue/purpley multicolor yarn for her blanket. Go figger.
Good idea, hard arkansas stone, soft arkansas stone, honing oil, check, check, check.
Finally broke down and got a b-square screwdriver set, the one with a bunch of blades, torque blades, allen blades. Waaay cool. Swapped a couple scopes yesterday along with the rings, bushnell scopes, warne rings, burris rings, etc.
Had to mix and match to get the scope as low as I wanted yet clear the rear sight. The Marlin .22 is close enough that there is only a paper width above the rear sight and below the tube. The bolt will clear the rear lense if the power adjusting ring is set at 4 power or higher.
Also finally found a blade that fit the windage set screw on the Savage 1914 .22; both elevation and windage are screw adjustable on rear open sight. They did make them nice in those ‘olden days’. Kentucky windage will soon be a thing of the past with that one.
Tanks - the navy was tricksier than I first thought. I modified the original pattern which had the chevrons only three “spaces” wide on each side. Now they’re five. So that took some figuring. I wanted a nice masculine design (the lil’ guy is going to need all the help he can get) and most of the baby blanket patterns out there are all frilly and lacey. When we get back from the hospital this afternoon, I’ll figure out which books I got the patterns from and let you know, tho you don’t really need one for the granny squares. If I were to do that one again, I’d swap the blue and yellow. I ended up really sick of yellow by the end. :P
I’ve yet to attempt a granny square afghan, though I like the way they look. I’m afraid my stitches aren’t even enough as far as scale goes, and so my squares wouldn’t match up right. Which is probably silly...I should try it, huh? ;-)
Especially since I have various dibs and dabs of this yarn or that.
I’m thinking one with a lot of black as the framework and then really bright colors within the squares could look nice — almost a little like painted glass.
Ok patterns:
The granny square pattery is in Leisure Art's "A Year of Afghans" Book 5 (#108211). The inspiration pattern for the ripple is in Leisure Art's "Afghans for All Seasons" Book 3 (#108217) and modified with info from Leisure Art's "Beginners Guide: Ripple Afghans to Crochet" (#75001).
The brilliant thing about granny squares is you don't have to have perfect or even stitches. The critical element is the weight of the yarn. If you can keep that even, everything matches up ok. Even if the sizes are a bit off, all the squares have the same number of stitches around it so it is a minor matter to stretch things a bit to make it all match up.
