Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!
The name, as we know, is from Ambassador Pointsett, not from poison.
No, but she got some turkey. At least when we managed to keep Sam away from her dish (he wanted more). We missed the best picture when she was staring up into the fireplace watching the flames dance.
Poinsettias are not poisonous, but they can cause tummy upset.
I likes that candle holder in the fireplace!
I got emergency turkey cooking calls from both Clare and David today, at the same time! She had just called on the house phone when my cell phone rang and it was David. He just needed to know the thawing procedure for the turkey - at NOON. I told him don't expect to eat before 7, if then. Sounded like a pretty small bird, though, so three or four hours in the cold water soak would probably be enough. Clare was looking for confirmation that what they'd done was right. They started soaking their 15 lb. bird at 3am, and someone was up every hour or so changing the water, so by noon, it should have been plenty thawed. Haven't heard from either of them to find out how it went. They were both having dinner with friends, so we'll likely talk to them tomorrow.
SirKit and are planning to get to Sears by 5am for a Black Friday sale on work boots, then back to Lowe's for a fiberglass 4' ladder they have on sale during the morning.
With about four hours sleep in the last 48, I picked up and returned my aunt from Thanksgiving dinner at my mom's place. On the way back, I fell asleep for an instant. Just enough time for me to hit the "left turn" sign on the traffic island, within a mile of my aunt's house.
Her gasp brought me back to the situation, where I realized I could not safely perform a violent evasive action without risking what might be around me. Jumped the curb, took out the sign, and swerved back into the left lane.
I didn't want to slam on the brakes, because I again wasn't sure about other vehicles around me, so I intentionally jumped the curb back onto the island, and came to a stop. Minor damage to the bumper, moderate damage to the left front fender, and enough of the skin on the left door was peeled back to prevent me from opening it.
The car would have been drivable, except for three flat tires and bent rims. I suspect two of them came when I jumped the curb to get back on the island. At least I knew we were safe, as were any other cars that might have been around us.
I had no problem with the cop writing me a $185 "careless driving" ticket. I'm a little pissed that the car is at an impound lot 20 miles away because today is a holiday, and nothing is going to get done until tomorrow.
I am profoundly grateful that this happened at 35 MPH in light traffic, and not at 75 MPH on the expressway. And that I just jumped a curb, and not slammed into a bridge abutment. Logically, I'm grateful to God for letting us off so easy. Emotionally, I'm still kicking myself in the ass for being such a moron. Prayers would be appreciated for the healing of my mom's car, and my self-respect.
Prayers up for both! I’m grateful that you and your Aunt are safe and sound. Cars can be fixed or replaced. It’s a lot harder with people.
Prayers up.
Have a better Friday.
Dang! Glad it didn’t turn out worse than it did.
I’m trying to beat the traffic rush (and the fare increase) by flying back to KS this afternoon.
Morning Win-mag; wow, that was close, good defensive driving recovery, traffic island was as good a place to end up as any. Glad to hear you and your aunt are okay. Good luck with the impound lot, that’s always a pita.
My heavens! How scary! Thank goodness you guys are ok!
Morning Corin - abbycat looks quite content, she’s likely waiting for pumpkin pie.
Morning Hair - that’s some heavy duty frost in the pasture, glad to hear T-day went well. With Ramius coming down, a trip to Cabellas and then the range may be in order.
Morning OT - mmmm eggnog. Good plan, flying back before ‘the rush’ hits Sunday. Glad to hear misskitty was in a socialable, festive mood, well, why not, there is food.
You’re not a moron. Those things can happen to any of us (I have a record, you know). Still, I know it’s a pain to deal with the aftermath.
Glad you’re all safe. That’s the most important thing. But you already know that.
Mornin’
Another load of dishes done. Another load of laundry done. Wiped down the newly refrosted garage freezer. It’s awaiting final approval from the Mrs. afore turning it back on.
She’s sleeping in a bit since she got up and fixed Jr. breakfast at 3:00 a.m. He had to be at work at Job 1 at 4:30 a.m. He gets off there at 2:00 p.m. Then goes to Job 2 at 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
It’s good fer him. Of course we realize that we’ll be told no one in the history of mankind has ever worked that hard.
And we’ll just smile.
The stores around here had a rolling start opening schedule. Some opened at 4AM, others 5AM, then another bunch at 6AM and the sleep-in crowd got the 7AM openings. The newz show last night showed the long line outside a big box store, tents, sleeping bags, the works; the cops had only been called once (so far) for ‘a disagreement between some folks standing in line’. Hope it’s worth it for those waiting all night.
Oh dear! I worried a bit on the road myself last night, being sleepy from turkey, and all the other drivers on the road being just as sleepy!
Sure glad you weren’t hurt winmag. We’ve all at least almost had that happen.
I mentioned Cabella’s as an option ;~)
There was some concern that the crowd there today might be a little much :~\
Our plan is to hang out, I think. Ramius can help us pose our Annual Christmas Card Picture. We also might watch all the LoTR movies... been awhile since we’ve done that!
