I’ve utterly failed at recruitment.

Among other things.

Power of attorney given to the soon-to-be-imprisoned person's attorney, who may or may not be associated with the soon-to-be-imprisoned person's criminal attorney.

The power of attorney allows the holder to act on behalf of the imprisoned person. The holder can buy, sell, and make binding legal decisons on property, custody of minors, and finances.

It's one way for crooked lawyers to profit.

You want to research the police procedural, not a mystery --- two completely different kinds of novels.

My favorite police procedural series is the In Death series by J. D. Robb, aka Nora Roberts. Do a search for "police procedure" or "police procedural" and you'll find some information.

Or watch Law & Order ...

They are all crooked, by definition.

It is their nature ...

This Howdunit book isn’t bad, but I really would like some of the full books it references - mainly the one on crime scene investigation and the one on court procedures.

I think I may pick up a copy of this one, though. It’s not a bad quick reference.

And no, I don’t know why I’m worrying so much about a NaNo novel. Except that I think I *may* have something that’s better than bad time around, with a bit of work and a lot of chopping.

Hey, NaNo is to stretch our abilities as writers, right? So when you have the word count down, concentrate on getting the first draft done right!

That’s what I’m doing. I really like this story. I have good feelingz about it.

I don’t have any worries about makin’ word count by the 30th...but I’ll probably save the serious research for after NaNo. For right now I’m just trying to figure out enough so that I can sketch it at least accurately enough that I don’t have to completely rewrite it.

And I think I’m being too obsessive about it. Wondering about things like...how much evidence against a guy do they need to make an arrest on the spot at a murder scene. Within five or six hours, anyway.

On the flip side, I’m a little creeped out by the fact that my murderer seems to very accurately fit one of their serial murderer profiles.

Start g'nad with "Term Limits". It doesn't even include Mitch Rapp, who is the main character of all the other books, but it kind of sets things up for the next book, and introduces some characters who will appear again. Here is the list of the rest of the books, in order of publication.

Transfer of Power
Third Option
Separation of Power
Executive Power
Memorial Day
Consent to Kill
Act of Treason
Protect and Defend(just came out last month)

No, you're not alone; they ARE creepy.

A couple of Christmases ago, I got David a little gargoyle, that sits on top of the monitor. The little guy is typing away on his laptop.;o)

Joseph and I made a couple of Cranberry-Pecan Upside Down Cakes, and I baked a HUGH batch of cornbread. That way, I can get started right away on the dressing, when I get up, and it will give me more time to do the other stuff. I have some cubed Butternut Squash; I'm gonna a casserole. I have a bunch of green beans, so I'll do Green Beans Almondine for SirKit and a Green Bean Casserole with Crunchy Onion Rings on top for everyone else. I bought rolls today at the grocery store, so I don't have to fool with that.

I got Oven Stuffer Roasters this week, because SirKit doesn't much care for Turkey. I bought two because Paul might bring one of his friends over. Brandon's parents moved to Florida several years ago, so he'd be alone, and I'm like his second Mom, so he usually comes over for holidays. So I'm going to marinate them in an Apple Cider Vinaigrette before I bake them. At least they won't take as long as a turkey would.

I got a call from Clare just about an hour ago. She and her friends were on their way home from the grocery story, and it occurred to them that the turkey they'd bought was frozen, and they weren't sure how to thaw it in time to cook it for dinner. Heh. I told her they'd have to soak the bird, in it's plastic wrap, in a sink filled with cold water. They'd have to take shifts changing the water every 1/2 hour or so for about 7 hours, cause it's a 15 lb. bird! I also suggested she just put it in their refrigerator overnight, then start the soaking process in the morning. Figuring thawing then baking time, I told her it likely would not be ready to eat before 7 tomorrow evening. She said that's about when they planned to eat anyway, so it worked out well! There are about 8 of them who are planning the meal.

Happy Thankgiving from Virginia, home of the real First Thanksgiving in 1619, a year before the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock.

When they landed, we Virginians were home enjoying a fine Smithfield Ham and watching all the action on CNN (in the days before FOX).

Ah - Good for you and good morning. That sounds like a nice time for you.

What time do you think you would leave here? We’re supposed to leave here around 11 or so, dinner is at 3... couple hours, we might be home by about 6.

If it works out for you to come and let the dogs out, that would be great. Maybe even feed them dinner? Depends on when you’re going to be coming and going.
