The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Midland

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

Philadelphia

The South

The Inland North

The West

The Northeast

I got seriesly sidetracked with this website. The pic at the link is the portion of Glen Strathfarrar where my big climatic battle will take place. It's completely different than I imagined. I followed the river down a ways to the Culligran wood where my ambush is supposed to happen. It's not as wooded as I hoped so now I have to find a new spot for the ambush. I suppose my artistic license means I can plant some trees... But I can't really unpave a road so I'll need a new tactic. Argh.

Anyhoo. I hope to cross 50K tonite.

Wow, what a deal! ...and theboys are cookin’...can’t beat that. Are you gonna be working while Steve is home with the boys, or is he quittin’ to let you bring in the big bucks? :-)

We have some friends bringing over turkey, potatoes, beans, and rolls. Thegirl and I are gonna make 3 pies. This set of friends are the ones taking Gunner for six weeks while we’re in St. Louis. We still don’t have a place to stay, but there are 2-3 possibilities. I’m not worried about that, because I just know that God is gonna anti-up. :-)
I’m more concerned about how my man is gonna be feeling through it all. If it gets too bad, I’ll plan on bringing thekids back here and let his parents or Osage stay with him.

Hospice would be bitter sweet. The joy in sharing Jesus with someone on their way to an eternity somewhere would be a privilege. Time and a half rocks! Mrsnad

Well, I have noticed that the Tidewater area of VA has similar speech patterns to folks from around Philly area. The organist at our Parish in NJ was from Bucks County, PA, and he sounded like a former sister in law of mine who was from VA.

I’m alway amused listening to Boston folks who don’t pronounce the ‘r’s when they are in the word, but stick one in a word that doesn’t have one! E.g. Hahvahd, and Cuber.

I’ve seen that course in the Teaching Company catalog. I’ll have to get it from the library. I did my first quarter in college during the summer, immediately after high school graduation. Heck, I didn’t have anything else to do! I’d heard that in the Eng. 101 course given in the Fall you had to write a paper every time, so I figured I’d get that one over with in the summer. Turns out, we had a visiting professor, and we only wrote 3 papers the whole time. We studied the History of the English Language! After seeing that course, I’m wondering if the teacher is the one I had 37 years ago! I have no idea how old he is now, but he wasn’t much older than we were then.

Ok, we’ll see what fits our plans! We are thinking of driving out Saturday morning and then driving on to Pittsburgh afterwards. We’re spending Christmas with my folks and had already planned to drive so it really worked nicely for us.

You need Hobbit Hole folks as witness to things as important as gettin’ hitched ;-)

I just looked him up. He didn’t graduate Wesleyan Univ. with his B.A. until after I graduated college, so it’s obviously not him.

I’m working whenever Steve is home. Next Monday will be the only time the kids will be on their own and I’ll be home, just sleeping while they do their school.

I’m really enjoying the hospice work. I really am. The patients I’ve taken care of have been mostly unconscious...sometimes opening their eyes, but rarely. It’s the families that I feel like I do the best good for. They don’t have to worry about anything...I take care of the particulars and all they have to do is love on their family member

It’s really satisfying work.

I doubt I’ll ever do anything else for agency again. Just this private duty hospice work. I’ll get my more intense clinical experience from my hospital job.

Did I send you a map? I think I sent you a map. If I didn’t send you a map, I’ll send you a map. If I did send you a map, is it a clear enough map, or will it send you off the map?

We got a map. It looked clear to me.

Hmm, considering you have a month to go you seem a little nervous.
