The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Heh, know the feeling, my friend, know the feeling.

I had a great way to get work that didn’t require any Interstate travel, then a bridge is being repaired, then a shopping center took out old 50 Highway, then...you know the rest, I’m back on the Interstate.

I’m mostly okay once I’m out of the nayberhood. Just the usual backups. But I can sit at that one left hand turn (across four lanes) sometimes for 15-20 minutes. We’ve actually been told a light is not “needed” because there have been no fatalities.

My way around it is currently blocked because a bridge is out.

I think it means I’m not supposed to be working.

*sigh*

Yeah, I talked to Margaret on Sunday and she said they’d just had a good sized storm come through and dump a bunch o’ snow. She said it just looked soggy, grey and dirty by then, though.

Yeah, MC going through sweaters is becoming kind of like Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum going through cars. it’s becoming a bit of a gag, but only because she didn’t pack enough warm clothes and the MMC (who’s amorous advances she was doing well fending off... until a few pages ago) kept buying her wonderful wooly warm sweaters. Now the sweaters have bullet holes and bloodstains.

Is he giving her a bit of a hard time for spoiling his lovely gifts?

I realllly don’t like doing this to the guy. Which is probably part of the reason it took me 40,000 words to do what I’d originally scripted to happen in the first...oh...10,000?

Not really, not just yet. They’re going through a bit of a rough patch right now, a lot of emotional distance between them which is just making them more snappish. FMC feel guilty that MMC’s father got hurt and taken by the terrorists. FMC could have taken down the ringleader, but she kept missing her shots. MMC says he doesn’t blame her, but keeps acting like he does. Plus all his life he’s squeaked by without having any real responsibility on his shoulders and now everyone is looking to him for what to do next. He’s still learning how to deal with that. Lots of ~angst~, but it’s good for the word count. :)

Looked out the window here this morning to see it's snowing... yay?

We're getting a slow start today, but that's to be expected I think... Going to go out and get a late breakfast.

Good morning!

Mmm...breakfast...

I came in early to reboot servers, so I didn’t have time to write or make coffee before work. I wonder if the cafe downstairs is open...

Traffic signal warrants, hmmm, you need to get a highway department family to move in your neighborhood, presto, traffic signal. :-)

Nothing quite like a bridge being out to flummox up the works.

WOOOHOOOO!!! I got a Thanksgiving shift!! A private duty hospice patient, twelve hour shift! On THANKSGIVING!!! Do you know what that MEANS???

Time and a half, baby!! It’s with my new agency, which pays more! $45.75 an hour!!! And the agency is open on Friday, and they have daily pay, so Friday I can take my time slip in and they’ll cut me a check right then and there!

I’m singin’ the Doxology!

And not a night shift either...a cushy day shift! 7am to 7pm!! I’ll be home in time for a nice Thanksgiving dinner with the family that I don’t have to do anything to prepare!! LOL!!!
