This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Well, good for you... your mountain must be keeping it away :~)
I got Bob and Hope reshod yesterday evening. It had only been 7 weeks but their feet were really long and all the clinches were loose on them too. They clinked on the gravel every time they walked. I pulled the shoes off of Miss Whirl and trimmed her myself on Monday. Gonna see how she does in boots for a while and maybe barefoot later. She’ll fit into the Easyboots I’ve already got for Grace. They both wear 00. I did the same thing a few weeks back for Goose. I’ll have to buy him a couple of new ones though coz his feet are bigger. He’ll take an 0.
So has TheNewFarrier been there and gone yet?
Yeah - he just left! I liked him alot!
And I think Bay’s feet look a LOT better, though they couldn’t have gotten much worse, he was so long.
I didn’t take pictures yet or anything. He put a real different thin shoe on Bay in the front. I meant to ask about it but there wasn’t a break in the conversation and I got distracted. Maybe you know what it is... I’ll go catch him and get some pics here in a bit after a cool off. It’s over 80 here and you know how easy I wilt. ;~)

"> Tuesday & Wed. we got to ride some. We picked 5.5 gallons of blackberries Thurs. am and left to go to Shelbyville, TN that evening. A friend that has a house close to the Walking Horse arena let us park our horse trailer in his back yard. We went to horse shows Thurs. and Fri. nights. It was interesting, but I don't like what the horses have to go through.
A little girl showing-she placed, but not 1st.
">
The prettiest horse I ever saw won 1st in it's class. It was a true blue roan ">
It was hard to get a good picture they were moving so fast.
This is the Spotted Saddle horse and Hal named him Trouble. He is a 9 yo and 15 hands high.
">
We rode Sunday after we got home to try him out
"> After a little tweaking with bits and getting used to the saddle bags, he did pretty good.
Hal's 72 year old uncle came and shod him Tues pm and he gave me these hooves he sawed off a horse someone called him to come and trim:
"> ">
He said he had to lay her down and tie her and saw them off with a hack saw. It took 2 hrs. for all 4 feet. Letting one get like that is even more cruel that the walking horse pads, to me.
We rode again today 4 hours and he did great. We are hoping he doesn't change (and live up to his new name) after he gets over his sale barn cold and puts on a little weight. I rode the black Sassy 2 yo and she did fine. After the ride we went and got her Coggins pulled and some abx for Trouble's snotty nose.
Those were some great pictures! I especially liked the one of the little girl showing that big red horse. It was blurred, but in an artsy kinda way. Really cool!
Those sawed off hooves were horrible! I can’t imagine somebody letting a horse get in that shape. But you can tell by the growth rings that the horse was severely foundered and not just overgrown. I sure hope it gets more regular trims and gets better.
I figured y’all rode today. It was nice (but hot) at work until around 2pm and then the bottom fell out. Who all went and where’d you go?
Beautiful new horse and pictures of your weekend!
I hope he does not live up to his name and is no Trouble. :~)
Any pics of TheNewShoes yet?
It was Hal & I, J. Stancil, John C., Shirley, W. Mitchell, Sammy S. and Al (Blackberry guy) on his little Paso. Lanier had his grandkids and couldn't go, but he came and looked at Trouble late afternoon. He liked him.
The vet sold us the powered Sulfa abx. for Trouble. $37. Hope he eats it. He's more interested in grass than feed. We put him on the east pasture so he'd have more. Maybe when all the noses and coughs clear up they can all go together. I need to sell 3 anyway. Really 4 'cause if Trouble stays as good as he is now, Soldier probably won't get ridden much.
I forgot to say my son gave me a puppy for my birthday. I needed one like a hole in the head, but I gave him his female and she had 9 this time. They sold 4 and then 4 of them started attacking the one I got, and she is not the runt. The ones left were all females and the mother bit him when he started kicking them off My Puppy. He had to put her in the house to keep them from killing her. I named her Tallulah Bankhead (papers), and she knows Tallulah, sits, and fetches at 11 weeks old. I've only had her 10 days. Maybe she will be smart enough to leave Hal's chickens alone.
We got 4 tenths of an inch of rain. Maybe we will get more today.
I hope it works on Trouble better than it did on Goose. It didn't phase his. That's when I went to the Pen-G for 10 days, then the Aureomycin. It's a nasty little bug! What's that hanging around Tallulah's neck? It looks like a little bottle or something.
Little MONSTER!
How cute! I should get my honey a puppy.... ;~)
LOL!! Suffering from cuteness withdrawals are we?
Ok now, We’ve allowed you long enough for the vacation withdrawals to be overwith. You gotta give us a trip report, complete with pics! ;o)
Yeah - just got some uploaded. I think they look pretty good. I should have taken pictures of the befores, so you know what he was dealing with, but I was too embarrassed, really. He was at 10 weeks with the delay in finding a new farrier and getting on his schedule, and Bay's feet run forward and his heels just crush. I'm amazed he was as sound as he was, but I wouldn't ride him the last month either.
So I think he did as good a job as he could of bringing him back, but let me know what you think. They're little dinky half-round shoes.
HF: Great pictu4res, cute puppy, good luck with her...blue heelers can be very opinionated:)
I wanted to let you all know, that I have moved my computer, down to the office, so I don’t have one at home now. I’m down here almost everyday anyway, I’m not using the computer enough at home to warrant keeping two high speed services and two telephone lines, and it will be easier to do the bookwork for the company here because there are times I need to talk to Charlie about some of it, but when he is at the house it’s not to work, and I forget to talk to him about the things I need too. I’m planning on just using my cell phone as my phone for the house.
Becky
She has one of my Christmas bells on her collar. I put it there to keep up with her. They chew so bad I'm afraid of what she will destroy. If it gets quiet, we go check. I got her a big pig femur and that has kept her off the chair legs.
Well, this vet told Hal it was way stronger than PCN. I knew better, but kept my mouth shut. It's the same thing JB gave Faith after he sewed her leg up, but it was more preventative than anything. BUT, this is not the same BUG that the others had because he is not coughing and the snot is yellow instead of green and not as globby. (Is that a word?) He had it when we brought him home from being exposed at sales. I bleached the buckets he had eaten out of yesterday so the others can go back in the barn. I hope it doesn't spread.
Ah - well, now you HAVE to go down to town every day so you don’t disappear on us!
FRMail me your cell phone number so I know I have it, and the right one. I’ll give you a call if you disappear too long that way. :~)
Well, not completely... We do still have one monster here after all... and she's a little terror. She'll jump up and crawl right up the back of me on the chair, like I'm just part of the furniture!
