FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

What did Kitten think of being on a leash? Most cats I’ve ever seen don’t think a whole lot of it. It’s beneath them I think. ;o)

Heh... I’ve trained a lot of mine to accept it, when moving to a new place it’s handy... it’s easy if they’re little. They go out to the end and flip around a little at first, but usually after about five minutes they learn to go to the end and stop. They don’t exactly follow on the leash, but you can kindof follow them at least, and limit where they go.

My Kitty number 6, the one who visited nursing homes with me, I could actually sometimes get to follow me.

That’s about all we were after, small perch, crappie, etc. Altho we had rods and reels, we just fished with worms, sinkers, and corks, no casting and reeling. The lake was way way up, which makes catching fish harder. We mostly sat at the edge of the lake in the shade and watched the water. This particular park we went to was actually closed due to high water. We parked in the bar ditch at the side of the gatehouse and hoped the gate to get in:).

Well, if the fireworks were illegal...they shouldn’t have had them. Are fireworks allowed at all, or just this particular kind?

Cat on a leash:)...I’ve heard of a few other people doing that. It is hard to know when to let a kitten out. I use too when I just finally got tired of the litter box.

There are "Safe and Sane" fireworks that are legal. I think it includes sparklers, small firecrackers, the little zippy things that bounce around on the ground, I think even the small bottle rockets. Then there are the bigger things and those are illegal, though they're sold on all the reservations... big booms, m80s... half sticks of dynamite, and some of the rockets that are nearly professional show size.

Heh... it ain't natural I'm sure, to put them on leashes, but I've always been too much of a control freak to have cats. ;~)

It does come in handy to at least be able to hold them on a leash, for grooming and such too.

Hi all!

No rain for the past 4 days and people are finally putting in hay. That is about a month late. Going price is around $2.50 to $3.50/bale. Square bales that is. We were down to our last bale.

Our County fair started on Monday and it usually rains all week. Alison is too young to be in 4-H, but the kids usually go everyday. The fairgrounds is only about 2 miles away from us. That used to be my weeks vacation when I was an 4-H advisor, now I only go maybe once or twice.

Finally started to feel better and not so sore. It still pains me to go up steps and my ankle is a little swollen. I hate being laid up like this. We have decided to sell Jody. I know, I won't ride her again. I just don't want to take any more chances with her.

Today, I am going to mow the pasture. It sorely needs it.

I really think they just didn’t want people in there camping, or trying to unload boats there. Day fishers off the shore isn’t a problem. The park sitters saw us walking done on the shore, they knew we were there, but didn’t ever say anything to us.

But it was exciting:)

We’re down to our last bale here, I need to get it today when I go to town. I have to get a filling... the appointment I forgot about last month :~\

I’m sorry you’re selling Jody. I hope you can find a good home and get a good price for her... But I understand... it takes us a long time to recover from hitting the deck as we get older.

Well that’s great about the hay. I haven’t gotten any yet. I’m wanting pure Bermuda and everybody I’ve called has had lots of other stuff mixed in with theirs so far, but they are spraying it and say that the next cuttings around the end of the month should be clean. I hope so. I think the price is going to be around $4 a bale for square bales. I’m not sure about rolls yet.

The fair sounds like fun. Ours isn’t ‘til September. I haven’t been in years.

I understand about Jody. Some horses are a little too reactive and I don’t blame you for being nervous about her. That was a BAD fall and could have been much worse. I’m finding myself to be a little more cautious on the young ones after my fall off of Goose. I guess I’m finally coming to realize that I’m not 10 feet tall and bulletproof after all. ;o)

Today is new farrier day... appt is at 2 this afternoon. I’m as nervous as a first date.

Bay’s so overdue and run forward I’m ashamed to show him to the farrier, let alone take pics. But the farrier’s been warned, I even tried to see if he could possibly come sooner last week and he said he was just booked up. The shoes are only staying on by habit, the clenches are all wiggly loose.

Remarkably, in all the farting around with the fireworks, he’s still moving pretty good, though I’d never ride him like this.

The mares... well they’re chipped up, but they’re fine.

Good luck with the new farrier. I hope he works out for you.

We had a heck of a storm, yesterday evening. Power was out for 8 hours, from 6 pm to 2 am. Fairgrounds was out also and I bet the vendors were not too happy. I swear the land that fairgrounds is on, is jinxed.

Yikes. I just saw a weather report that showed a pretty long line of storms hitting Becky this morning.

Yikes. I just saw a weather report that showed a pretty long line of storms hitting Becky this morning.

Here is a map of the counties in OK. Thought I'd show you this because it's interesting that it is NOT storming here, but just to the north of me. Notice Wagoner county just south and east of Tulsa County. My property is in the very north corner of that tiny arm of Wagoner county that sticks over into Tulsa county.

So after looking at that you can see I'm not getting hit. I was surprised when I read your post. I'm thinking, I'm not getting rain, what is she looking at. So I looked at the radar, Bixby is probably getting rain, but none here, altho it did rain some thru the night.

I just found it interesting how close it was and that it lead you to think I was getting storms.

Wow... so it’s just above you! Yeah - it was a big long line of bad weather that looked like it was hitting you like a fire hose.

I saw that...but looks like it’s going to rain just north of me all day, and I won’t get any here.

I just found that interesting.
