This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
How long does the severe weather last there? Generally our heavy winds don’t last but a month or so but it’s been forever this year.
Oh well I hope your severe weather isn’t too severe!
Yes, they say 90 by Friday... we have 48 and cloudy now, so I’ll believe it when I see it. ;~)
Duchess, severe weather usually will be over by the beginning of June. So this sort of thing could come up for a while yet. Generally, it’s nothing but heavy downpours, and gusty winds.
Hair, I can’t imagine you all being in the 90’s so early in the year, if at all. Good luck, hope you don’t melt if it happens:) I know you are not use to heat like that, especially with no time to acclimate.
Becky
Well, if it gets that hot, I’m glad I will have your sympathies... ;~) I’ll probably be outside, playing with the hose.
Prediction is for 90+ here too. You know the tomatoes I replaced yesterday, along with the peppers and the cucumbers - it froze last night. Squash made it through fine but the tomatoes are down again :)
I found out that the attachment on his tractor — it looks like a big yellow bobcat with tracks — is a “mulcher head.”
I’ll post some pictures - he cleared fence lines yesterday and is finished so we are putting up fences this weekend !! Yea!
What kinda fence are you putting up?
Do you think this will be okay for the horses? We are putting up thick strand hog wire (pulled tightly) through the back part of the property which is mostly wooded. Along the drive on one side around the bottom of the hill in our front yard we have split rail. It’s not tall enough so we have to run another course or so of railing, then across the top of the wire fencing and the inside of the split rail electric fence wire will be installed.
Sounds like it will be a good fence. :~) Especially with teh electric. The safest fence is the fence they don’t want to even touch.
Did you make it through your severe weather today?
Not plain as in “plain ugly” It’s just...well I have trouble finding it at Walmart. Awhile back I came out a different door at a big hospital in Larado. I walked almost all the way around it, with my clicker, looking for my truck. Silver trucks are all over the place around here. I don’t want it flashy ot gawdy, just a little different.
I guess you could always stick a fox tail on the antennea. I know what you mean though, you need something that individualizes it.
We didn’t even get any rain.
Becky
I would say as long as you keep the electric fence on top of the hogwire hot then it should be fine. My experience with plain old hogwire, usually with just a single strand of barbed wire on top of it, is that they tend to lean over it to graze on the other side and then end up walking it down on the ground. Then they get their shoes hung in it and you’ve got the potential for some really bad injuries. And even if they don’t get hurt, you end up having to cut them out of it and then you’ve got a cut up fence.
And this is just something I’d been thinking about for my own self whenever we get around to fencing at our place. If I was going to put up a web-wire type fence from scratch, I’d want to set the bottom of it at least 6 inches off the ground so you could weedeat under it if I needed to.
Well good... I hadn’t heard of any bad storms, but 2J had been talking about being under tornado watch, or warning, earlier in the day.
We had rain... good rain, good for my grass. :~) I still don’t believe it’s really going to be 90 by Friday. :~)
BTW.... TanyaC97 has sent me a PM from the horse forum, asking about you, that she misses your advice. I’ve gotten a couple of other inquiries too over the last month or so... people noticing that you haven’t been around.
I haven’t been over there in a while. What happened, did the crazies finally get to you?
Who me? I’ve been over there... Been in a few food fights in the last few days... Got a couple people over there that don’t like me! Shocking but true. ;~)
Well, it’s frustrating not to have gotten any rain. The yard and pasture don’t really need it but my garden needs to be watered. I don’t want to water it if it’s going to rain...
TanyaC97??? I don’t even remember her:\ I go over there everyday and look down thru the forums, but nothing really interests me enough to say anything. You can thank anyone that asks about me. I really appreciate it. I’ll try to join in.
Becky
You might remember her avatar picture... sometimes I recognize the pictures more than the names. :~)
