FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

I’ll post a pic when they are grown. The pictures look really pretty. They were cute when they were tiny babies. I think they’re in their gawky stage. The dogs killed one this afternoon. Hal was really mad and even spanked them.

If Texas mosquitoes are as big as Arkansas ones, I feel for you. We went thru there at nite in a camper when I was 13 and I thought they would chew thru the screens.

I’d like to see pictures as they grow. We’ve got aracounas and light brahmas here.

Boy I’m sorry the dog got one - all of our dogs have finally learned you touch a chicken you die :) It took awhile and a few missing feathers.

Sounds like the ducks at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis. I’ve never seen them, but I hear they sleep somewhere on top of the hotel in a pen and come down every morning in the elevator to their own pool in the hotel lobby. The hotel makes quite a ceremony about it. They have their own doorman.

All you’ve got left is little dogs now, so which dog did it?

It’s such a good deal I could cry. I wish mine ran.

Hey...did you see in the Hole that a funnel cloud went right by our church the other day? Steve and the boys were at the church and one of the men from the church saw it. Wasn’t touching the ground though.

Unpredictable weather lately, eh? Gorgeous right now but supposed to be severe again tomorrow.

Petey and Prowler, the outside ones. I told him “they are dogs”. He didn’t threaten to shoot them, tho, like he did Chops.

I figured it was Petey. He's a Jack Russell isn't he? I can see a dog like that getting carried away, but I just never thought about “Killer Yorkies”. ;o) But then Prowler was getting after them pretty good on Saturday afternoon when I was there. I thought Hal was gonna stomp him then. I guess anything that little that runs is just too irresistible for most dogs, or cats.

Did you have a nice Mother’s Day yesterday? Did your kids come over?

Petey is Fox Terrier, but, yeah, all those terriers will chase and grab anything that runs. They were prob. just playing and got carried away. Chicks aren't real sturdy anyway. Joel and his wife took us to O'Charlie's Fri. nite. We went out for breakfast (Wafflehouse), got groceries, bought digital thermostate and Hal put them on at the office, and took his mama her stuff. I wrapped Faith's let and let her out in the bigger lot to give her a little more grass and freedom. She's a little happier. I'll probably turn her loose with the others this pm. It's still draining just a little, but it never opened up. She rolled first thing and is nasty dirty, but happier!

Good Afternoon.

Cindy: The ducks are cool. Are they wild ones, or tame ones that just roam your neighborhood? I have a friend that lives in town in an addition, and all the neighbors contribute to keep a flock of guinea hens roaming the neighborhood to keep ticks down. I think that is so cool. She told me that they roost in trees at night. Of course they all get killed off by dogs and such, but then they all contribute to buy more.

Duchess: In my experience your garden may come stand back up. Water them good, it might not be lost.

It’s been a productive day around here. The kids all showed up, and me and the girls got all the painting done, yeah!!! We got all the stuff I don’t want in the house when I get it on the market loaded in my truck and I’m hauling it to town this evening to unload at the building. And I sent them home with a bunch of stuff...the guns, I don’t want them here when people go thru the house. We’ve got all the furniture in all the rooms pretty much placed where it will stay. I just need to finish cleaning up some. Of course it will all have to be moved again when the carpet goes in, but that’s for the carpet layers to do.

Charlie got the bobcat running again, and got my driveway smoothed out. As soon as we know the bobcat is going to hold up, I’m ordering a roll off construction dumpster and we will clean out the shops. Kristy, Jenny and I rearranged some panels so that they can take most of them down to their place. I’m keeping just enough to go across the front of the property so that it’s fenced. I think having fence all around is a good selling point.

Maybe I will make my July 1 goal to get it on the market. I talked to a realtor today. She’s going to come out one day in the next week or so. I’m going to talk to several before I decide who to list it with.

Becky

WOO! Sounds like good progress indeed!

Working inside on papers today... :~P So far. There’s a few outside things I want to do.

Boy - sounds like you’ve gotten a lot done. Amazing what an extra hand or two can accomplish :)

You were right - about 2/3rds of the garden is starting to stand up. The tomatoes took the hardest hit, I replaced five of them. The squash and zucchini recovered fully. If there is ever nuclear war, they will survive right along with the cockroaches :)

Probably a little of both. They are wild but are at home around here.

Thanks. I think it’s kind of plain though. I’ve got the muffler changed and the side steps on . Now I want to decal or add some color. I need a box in the back too , to store tools and stuff. It’s coming along. The kids still want tvs inside and I want a power converter too.

2 weaned now! I think the Gold one plans to “milk” this as long as she can though. Oh and Jazz took off again before I could get her to the vet. My husband opened the garage and......

Good morning.

Hair, I was watching the weather this morning, and I caught your forecast, that 90 degree weather is heading for Wa. this weekend...was that you???

The forecast here today is severe storms by this afternoon, and overnight. It’s already warm and humid this morning.

If Jaz shows up again, put her in a crate or lock her in the bathroom until you can get her to a vet.

Glad to hear two are weaned already.

PS - no Dodge is plain :)
