This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Where WAS the dining hall? I don’t remember seeing one. I remember the building where we paid, and the building where the bathrooms were, but that’s all. And none of them were that big.
It was "going" to be on the front side of that building from what I understood.
And I still have a 16 y.o. at home. She's in the 8th grade, although age-wise she should be in the 10th, but English was not her first language. I tried to homeschool when she first came to live with us, which probably was not a great idea. She was a bit delayed, but now is probably emotionally older than 8th grade, but "she is where she is" and doesn't want to go to summer school to catch up.
Congratulations! I know you are excited. This one will be close, too, so you can see them more.
That’s good your 16 yo is comfortable where she is. If she wanted to she has the option of doing something abt it.
Thanks. I was and still am upset. We are going to be on that TV show on RFDTV and I won’t be able to be on my favorite horse. I have been kidding and saying “Now she can’t be a TV star!”. Daisy is fine and pretty, but she doesn’t “BOND” with people like the relationship Faith and I have. Only horse people understand that feeling.
The main thing is that she should be sound and heal in 2-3 wks. and not have a 6 month healing process like it could have been if Hal had not been there and noticed her limping and checked on her. So far she’s not tried to get her bandage off and is not limping anymore. I went and checked on her at 5AM and woke her up. She was laying flat on her side in the stall. I just turned the light out and left as quietly as I could so she wouldn’t get up and down on that leg any more than necessary. She won’t sleep standing up. I’ve abt. decided not to take her for the weekend ‘cause I think it would upset her for us to ride off and leave her.
We rode yesterday and she was nickering at us when we loaded the other horses and drove off and she couldn’t go.
She stuck her head in the halter to go this am, but she didn’t know it was just to go have her shoes pulled off and feet trimmed. I hope she was able.
Aw... such a bummer to have her not be there with you. I hope it’s a fun experience anyway.
Is there going to be a way to share this show with those of us who don’t get RFDTV? I don’t even have a VCR any more. I hope somehow it can be uploaded to the web. I’d like to be able to see you guys and say “I knew them when they were nobodies!” :~)
On the shows before all they really show of the riders is a line of them walking by on the trail. You’d have to watch closely to even recognize someone. They spend more time showcasing the scenery in different areas of the country and the amenities at each campground. It’ll be fun, though. They are supposed to have an expert do a clinic and venders. The meals are all provided, so no cooking and cleaning up.
It didn't see where they had the option of downloading past episodes from their website, but it looks like there's a DVD of each show available for purchase, so I assume we'll be able to buy one at some point after the filming. If nothing else we can mail that one around.
Here's a link to the DVDs they have of past shows.
So what ever came of TheGreatPossumHunt?
They haven’t been back! I think someone tipped them off.
Is Daisy as good at the dirty looks as Faith is? LOL
That is the best part! Wonder who is going to do it when we go to LBL?
Daisy doesn’t look at anybody. She ignores everyone except she will swish her tail and bump up a little if someone is riding her butt. It is nice not to have to apologize to people for the “Got to ____” looks, though. The regulars don’t pay any attention to Faith anymore.
Hal said her knee bled a little thru the dressing when the guy shod her. I dread taking it off this pm. I will prob. put a smaller one back on, even though he said to leave it open.
I really don’t mind camp cooking if it doesn’t interfere with riding time. It’s sort of like playing house when I was a kid with little bitty appliances. We can take a grill for “guy cooking”. It will be nice just to go to the mess hall and get up and leave though.
Did you see how much they were charging for a CD with 40 pictures on it on that RFTV site. $85!!! They would have to be some one in a lifetime shots that I couldn’t take myself for me to even think abt. buying one of those.
Today after some patch work has been completed...we are still being told that some offical has said a new bridge has to be built within the year.
And yesterday I took the boys to their gymnastics class:)

A few of my garden that I have been working on...Anyone know how long the diantheus will bloom? I've never had it before, and didn't expect it to get so big.
Becky
Flowers in the ground! I want some!
I’ve never had that flower, but it sure is pretty!
Fun with upside down kids :~)
And the bridge work, is there a culvert under all that where the creek flows, or did they just fill it with rocks, or... ???
I planted those flowers last year. I knew they would come back, I just didn’t expect them to be so big...ands I planted them late last year, so I’m not sure how long they will bloom....I hope all summer. They come in all different colors.
I planted white with red center periwinkles with a few red salvia mixed in as the border for the sidewalk. I’m looking forward to seeing how that looks when the periwinkles start to bloom. I really like periwinkles:). The rest of the garden is pretty much all just different ground covers mostly, except for the perinnals.
BTW...Kristy is riding Harley again tonight, and I’m going to watch:)
Becky
Oh, and the bridge...the culverts that were there are still there...it was around the sides of the culverts that was eroding so bad. They filled all that in with rock, covered it with cement, them put all those white rocks in to help hold the sides....I think it’s just a temporary fix...it’s still going to erode the next time the water comes up that high...the thing is it might be several years before it happens again.
Becky
Hope you didn’t forget the camera!
They're nasty lookin creatures that make the hair on the back of my neck stand up. And the way they stare and bumble around when they walk they almost remind me of re-animated dead things made up of parts of other animals. {Shutter} Maybe I ought to knock off of the Night of the Living Dead movies. ;o)
Wow, those are some big-@$$ rocks that got washed away in that first picture! That water must’ve been moving like a freight train to do that.
The gymnastic pics of the boys are cool. I think it’s great that they’re taking lessons. I’ll bet they’ll be some super-coordinated young men when they grow up. Maybe we’ll even see them on the Men’s Gymnastics Team at the Olympics one day.
Your garden is looking so neat. I love those Dianthus too, but I’ve never grown them so I don’t know how long they bloom either. I think they do well in hot, dry places so they should do well this summer.
