FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Becky,

When my Papa passed away, I delt with all of the legal issues that came about for my Nana. It really sucks, and my heart goes out to you. I know, I know that it just isn't the same, and that I'm seeing it from a different perspective, but if you need anything, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to PM me.

Took blankets off today, it's lovely and sunny... horses ran for a good long time but by the time I decided it was camera-worthy and went inside to get it, they were spent :~\

Only got one sortof decent picture of Bay...

But look!

It's spring!

> I guess if Mack taught me anything (not sure if it’s a good thing or bad:), but don’t trust anyone, their only out for their own gain...<

For some reason, a death seems to either bring out the very best of a person, or the very worst. There just doesn’t seem to be any middle of the road.

I think Mack’s advice was a very good thing, you really need to keep your eyes open and your wits about you right now. If it turns out that someone is not focused only on their own gain you can be pleasently surprised. Much better than being horribly disappointed and losing something important because you have taken someone at face value and they turn out to be less than you thought.

I wish we were close enough to be of help to you - don’t worry about downer posts. If you can’t bitch at us, who can you :)

LOL - I haven’t got far enough to see if she showed up with the money but I think she wouldn’t even notice rude - strange lady. Besides, there is no rule that says you have to be nice to people who don’t rate it - I think their behavior determines if they deserve it or not.

I’ve had to finally tell a few of them, you know, I just really don’t want to hear this, I’m dealing with my own grief, I don’t need yours piled on top,,,is that rude?

No! Absolutely not. When my Papa died, my Nana's god daughter was extremely distraught. She kept wanting us to tell her that it was OK that she didn't see him when he was in the hospital, and tried to imply that we kept her from seeing him. (Never!) When the wake and the funeral happened, she turned it into a woe-is-me thing, and tried to turn it all on herself to get sympathy. I finally had to take her aside and tell her that it wasn't about her, and that we needed to put our own feelings aside and rally around my nana. (Her godmother)And oh yes, here's the kicker- when she went to view his remains, she threw herself ontop of the casket- and almost knocked it over. I tell you that last bit to try to make you laugh... I laugh about it now, but let me tell you, we were all mortified.

So yes, it is perfectly acceptable to set boundaries. YOU are not there to console anyone. And don't feel that you have to either. If anything, people should be supporting you, not the other way around.

Just reviewing charts and arguing about politics. I even got into a debate at Walmart today. There was a calendar of a count down until Bush was out of office. It was past funny and derogatory.. I noticed it was marked down and thought good but it bothered me though so I took it to the general manager and asked why Walmart, a family store would carry something like that. I told her it didn’t matter if you supported him or not but it was disrespectful to the highest office in our land and that the President of the US should be treated with more respect than that. She told me they didn’t have any control over what the vendors put out but she would take it down. I think I need a vacation:’)

Well I’m still gonna take a vacation. I’m gonna go see my son in San Diego in a couple of weeks. Not sure how I’m going though. I want to drive but my husband isn’t to fond of that idea. Remember how last year I was talking about Marta and that area we went thru on the train? I want to check some things out.

Wow, that's early! Mine haven't even THOUGHT about starting to shed yet. I look forward to them slicking off, but I sure do dread the process. It's SUCH a mess! And they look so moth-eaten while they're doing it.

Good morning.

I don’t think mine have started shedding at all either.

I have an appointment tomorrow morning to take Harley back to the vet. I decided to go ahead and have him checked, and then she can tell me specifically how to treat it if it needs treating.

I also ran into a girl I know that buys and sells horses. She told me of a sell down in Texas that is at the end of next month that is a good sale to take horses, especially ones that are colored. I’m going today to get the paper work from her to enter Harley and Rocky in that sell if I haven’t gotten them sold by then. Charlie and Kristy would take them for me. This girl said she would take them but she gets 25% of the sale price, and I think that’s a bit much. Of course Harley would have to be sound by then...

Thanks Duchess:)...looking at this situation objectively...it’s been interesting to watch how people react. It’s also taught me some things, so hopefully the next time I’m dealing with someone going thru something similar, I’ll be better at offering help and comfort.

Good morning... I sure hope you find good easy news about Harley.

Hair started coming off of all my horses in buckets in the last few days... I’m not complaining, I’m looking forward to spring too.
