FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Good Morning.

Late start here, as I had been answering emails about Bodie. Real busy yesterday, mowing and weed eating. Going to be hot again today.

...Anyone want to start a grandparent thread?...

We already do that here too. Most everybody on here will talk about and post pictures of their kids or grandkids at one time or another, along with just about every other subject that comes up. We just talk about whatever bubbles to the top on that particular day. It may be horsey stuff one minute and yard work the next, so just feel free to talk about whatever's on your mind.

I'm glad that TheNewHorse is adjusting well. Sounds like he's a really nice and layed-back kinda guy. I like horses that are real people-oriented.

Thanks! He does seem to be a people horse. Hope it cools off soon (today breaks the record for most consecutive days over 100 degrees) so that we can spend more time with him.

My granddaughter can't say "grandmother" yet, so she says 'mudder'. When we drove up to see the horse and she saw me, she told her mother "oh, there's my friend, Mudder!"

She wanted to know if the horse was her friend, too, and my daughter said "yes, but he's a really BIG friend. You have to be careful."

Yeah, I think y’all have been hotter down there than we’ve been up here, although I don’t think there’s all that much difference between 102* and 104*. Once you get much above 95 then it’s pretty much splitting hairs. IT’S HOT!

How old is your granddaughter?

Good morning :) I have DISH TV, I’ll have to call them and get the details on satellite.

Like I say, they had a special on when I got mine but it expired on the 11th. I signed up like on the 8th but they couldn't get me installed until yesterday but as long as you signed up before the deadline ran out that was ok. The installation was free and the equipment was only $199 plus you got a $100 rebate in the form of $10 off your monthly bill. I think normally installation is $179 and equipment is $249. Here's the link to the different packages that they offer. I got the $49.95 one and that's plenty fast enough for me. The satellite part is actually powered by Wild Blue so you could go to www.wildblue.com and enter your zip code to see if there are any dealers in your area. That's how I found mine.

Satellite doesn’t work real well here, the satellites are pretty low on the horizon up here in the Arctic circle (;~D), and if there aren’t hills in the way, there’s trees.

So I’m thankful for cable!

Tuscaloosa... some of us also post over on Horse.com Forum in addition to here...

I'm "WashingtonBay" over there... Payno...(Becky) is "Harley's owner" over there.... Frog and Duchess kept it simple and used the same names! :~)

My sister just got satellite TV and I was really surprized that they could because they live basically in the woods. They mounted their dish on their old TV tower, which is really tall, but they still had to top a few trees. My tree-hugger BIL was just having a fit.

Hi guys! Sorry, I've been meaning to get to your posts... things have been crazy and hectic at my end. Every spare moment I have has been spent job searching, and I've had doctor's appointments to contend with as well. I'm still not feeling all that great. Doc says that it could take a month! (Great!)

Hair, yikes about the kid. You sure do get a lot of excitement over there. Whatever happened to your trailer, did you get it fixed where the store owner dented it? (Free associating here.)

Frog, it's amazing how much horses are like bratty teenagers. You had mentioned how Tennessee would squeal under his breath. I had a horse that used to do that whenever I asked him to canter. It's like they're telling you to p!ss off and hope that you don't hear them. Levi grunts if I really get after him, and when he thinks that we've had enough he'll whinny very softly, like a whine. It's high pitched and very effeminate.

Thanks for the links. Wild Blue is available through AT&T and someone else here, can’t remember who. However, a friend about 5mi away and the neighbor next door both signed up with Wild Blue and neither are happy with the service. Maybe it’s just our area that has the problem.

I started to sign up through AT&T, but DISH was cheaper for the same stuff. I hate to hear that the Wild Blue isn’t working out for you neighbors. Do you know what problems they’re experiencing? Are they not able to connect or lose signal or what? I haven’t had mine long enough to know. I do know that I lose signal on my TV when it rains real hard or snows (HA!) so I’m expecting the same for the internet.

No, their problems aren’t in loosing the service. There seems to be a filter on email, coming in at least and email (especially pictures) over their pre-determined max are dropped. Also, very small limit on what you can download, programs, etc - without switching to the business service and paying quite a bit more.

Sarah.....my Mom told her to do something and she told her “I’m sorry. I can’t do that. I don’t have the gift of obedience!”

Psst... I joined the horse.com forum under muppetbaby. It seemed clever at the time. Now I’m not so sure. :-p

It was just another way to procrastinate. :-) I’m getting pretty tired of writing cover letters and finding fifty different ways to say “Look at me! I’m fantastic! I want a job!” :-D
