FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Your garden looks so pretty and peaceful. I love that ornamental grass and the morning glories (?) on the fence. And the little fountain.

Congratulations on the sale success :) I’m sorry you had a thief show up. Looks like a lot of cool stuff left there. If I were close enough, I’d be buying the dirt bike and the compresser.

The desert takes some getting used to, but I’ve found I love it and now can’t imagine living anywhere else. Good luck on your decision.

Duchess, where you live is prettier than West Texas. You have those gorgeous mountains in the background. The weather is probably milder here, though. But not by much.

I do love my mountains :) One of the things I love about the desert is that you can see a hundred miles. A little milder would be good, especially if it meant less freezing weather. The only part of Texas I’ve ever seen though is driving through Amarillo and then through Dallas/Ft Worth area. My son lived in Killeen for a couple of years and loved it there.

Good morning:)

We got a little rain this morning.

MT. so sorry about the thief, that is so awful.

Well, is anticipation starting for anyone but me about our upcoming get together:) I just got back from town. I went to buy the fencing I need to put up the temporary pen I’ll build to put Dot in while she is here. Mack and I are going to get the back bedroom cleaned up today to put a person in:)

Yes, they are morning glories on the fence. By this time of year, IMO, they are starting to get just a bit to much:)..I have to trim them back over the gate about every other day or you can’t get in and out. They have completely covered a small rose bush that is back in a corner, I’ve had to cut them out of the ornamental grass. They reach over and start twining around the grass and weigh it down. One time when JP came to visit he asked me where the “jungle came from:)”

Yeah - getting excited and nervous here! When’s my flight? Ack!

We just got back from breakfast and buying a good drain pipe for the runoff from the barn roof. Exciting stuff!

Good to hear from you:)

You know, I’m still hoping you can make it here even for just one night. You wouldn’t even have to bring a horse, Just come for Sat. evening, and stay thru Sun. for when we have the bonfire and cook out there, and then Sun. for the pumpkin patch visit and hike to the caves, and lots of visiting. If we do ride any then we can always rotate riders if you want to go out on a horse.

I’ve been thinking a lot about you:)...

It will definitely be up to you, because I want you comfortable on whoever you ride. But I’ve been thinking you might be more comfortable on Rock. Harley is a great great horse, but every once in a while he can have a moment:), nothing that I don’t think you could handle, but since he is a new horse for you....just not sure what you would want to do. I haven’t seen Rocky have a moment in years:) Something that you can decide when you get here and try them both.

Well, we’ll see! I know I can probably become comfortable on either one as soon as I get used to ‘em. But I do think it makes sense for you to be on the faster lead horse, since you know where you’re going :~)

Well, even if I ride Harley, I don’t think I’m going to be in the lead:)...mostly I’ll tell Frog and Blade to follow Grizzly:)

I know I was very nervous having to ride an Arab when I came to your house. I was really bummed when I found out that Kat was not going to be the one I rode. I’m so prejudice. But Mia turned out to be wonderful, and it was fun riding her.

Mia was a great find for Tiff. She’s very easy going. She paid top dollar for Kat... and I think bought Mia for $400. Tiff has always liked Mia best, but picked Kat as first choice for a QH friend :~)

When Kat pooped out, there wasn’t any question that Mia was a much better choice than Bob’s big grey snortin’ Appy horse, who would have been the next available choice! :~\

On Wed. we can spend as much time as we need just riding in the arena..2J will have to be adjusting to Dot:).

I talked to Jenny yesterday, she said that Dot was the only horse out of all her in-law family that had behaved the whole week on their vacation. She and Blake have been taking turns riding her, not one problem, she has stood in her stall there with no problem...Jenny was very proud.

I guess Travis’ horse humped up the first day and bucked enough that Jenny had Travis get off and she took the horse and lunged him till he was dripping. The horse her FIL rode, dumped him. The man has had both knees replaced. When he came off the horse, his foot stuck in the stirrup just long enough to give his leg a hard jerk, and from the sounds of it and what the doctor said when they called, looks like he’ll have to have some surgery to repair the damage. He hasn’t gotten out of his chair since it happened.

Well, you'll be in the lead of the non gaited group bringing up the rear :~)

Well Mia is definitely a unique Arab IMO:) I’d take her in minute.

You wonder how much of that is from having Tiff be her rider, and how much is just Mia’s personality.

Kind of like Rock...how much is just him, how much because of the way he has been handled. IMO, with Rock, it’s just him, and I mostly think that because of having handled so many of his babies. They were all like that, like Dot is. Because to be honest Dot has not really had that much experience as far as being rode.

Well which ever I ride it doesn’t matter to me...Belle use to be pretty slow, and I directed many rides from the back:), it’s not a problem.

I just want you to be comfortable enough to enjoy riding.
