FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Chilly here. I’m hoping the rain holds off till I can mow today. The grass has pretty much stopped growing but I want to mow some patches one last time :~)

I’m rather hoping the grass around here has slowed down growing so that my pasture will stay nice for when you are here. I may have to spot mow a bit.

What are your night temps? Ours stops growing when the night temps start dipping under 50.

BTW, we are holding in the 80’s for the highs....do you consider that hot? I think you do.

In two weeks tho that could change considerably. Shouldn’t be “cold” yet, but cooler, just praying for no rain.

Right now our lows are in the 60’s. I don’t think “right now” it has slowed down growing. I just mowed the grass in the front yard at the end of last week, had the mower set on level 4, and I had to mow it again yesterday.

There will be some growing, I’m just hoping that in the next week or so, we start getting a bit cooler.

Becky

Those porch kitties are SO cute! Looks like you’re making some real progress with with them. You’re a brave woman wiggling bare toes at them though! I’d be afraid they’d take me up on it. The one playing with the rope looks like a real character. I’ll bet she’ll be fun to play with when she gets a little tamer.

The one sitting on top of the box in the first picture looks JUST like a barn cat that I had several years ago. Her name was Sister too. Her sister’s name was Mama, because she managed to have a litter of kittens before I could get her tamed and spayed. Mama was more fawn colored, but still a calico I think. She had one little patch of white at her throat, but the rest of her was tan and gray brindle looking.

Well, Rocky is saddled, so I’m out of here. I should be able to get him rode and still have time to get some mowing done before it’s time to go babysit the kid:)

Here’s my website:

http://www.gallantwatchkennels.com/

Sorry, I am just nuts about my babies. Keeley, Thunder, Rose, Juanita(pharoh hound), Peaches(cattle dog), Murphy and Eloise are mine.

Kiah and Fuji(my shiloh girls mom) belong to my breeder. Her husband is a photographer and created the best pic.

Siamese are the BEST! Such personality!

Blue Points are born completely white, not a dark hair on them, just little pink noses and ears. Makes sense when you think about it, since the color is temperature sensitive and when they're in utero the whole kitten is the same temperature! Color stays that way for a long time, too. About the time the eyes start changing from the universal kitten blue to true Siamese blue, you can start seeing the color coming in on the points. When mine were kittens, their white fur was so fine that when they got excited and fluffed up their tails, they looked like they had bare tails and were possums!

You’ve got some gorgeous dogs! I love that one of Thunder in your husband’s lap in the chair. He’s HUGE!

You can see most of my bunch on my profile page. Some of the pics are a little old because all the babies aren’t babies anymore, but they’re still cute.

What is a Shiloh shepherd? Looks like a GSD.

My daughter wants a white GSD so she can name it Silas (DaVinci Code rimshot . . . )

Didn't see your website before I asked about Shiloh Shepherds. They sure are pretty. Are they a little less "sharp" than a GSD?

I'm a Lab person (as you probably know if you've hung around here very long). A chocolate girl and a black girl, both spoilt princesses . . . . neither one will ever be a conformation champion, but the choc has her Agility Excellent titles and her Started Hunting Retriever title, and should get her Junior Hunter title as soon as I can find another AKC hunt test to put her in. The black is only a year old and is still too silly to win anything!

A shiloh shepherd is a rare breed. They have the GSD, malamute and white german shepherd in their history. The malamute was taken out later due to soft ears. But they gave them the big bones you see. They are very smart. They are just like the old style GSD that were larger and had a straight back and are less agressive; however they will protect you. They love kids and are herding dogs, and also do service work and agility. I think they are kind of big for agility. This litter we are going to have promises to be an exceptional one. The colors are going to be wonderful. Since both the dogs are sables; I don’t know if we will get any duals or whites, even though the girls have a double white recessive gene. The girls are part of a 10 litter puppies who are the only 10 pups in the world now that were produced from a white on white sable. You see white sables; but they are from mixed colors. My male has the same father as the girls and is the right now the old true silver sable male that is breedable. He is going into the show ring soon. Wonderful long gate.

Would you belive one of my best friends field trials labs. She also has two English mastiffs of which I am godmommy too. The mastiffs go out of the field trials too and have even won some ribbons. LOL One of her mastiffs is 8th in the nation right now. He is absolutely gorgeous. Watch for him in the future at Westminister. His name is Angus. This boy is definately going far. Those labs are beautiful by the way. Hers are chocolate and black also. Couldn’t breed the chocolate because he had bad hips. It was really a blow for her because Otter is a beautiful.
