FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Those are both great ideas.

Beaker, I am so very sorry that happened. Coyotes can be such a danger to small pets, since they seem to have very little fear of man.

Aw man Beaker, I’m really sorry about the trainer’s dogs! That’s just horrible, especially to see it happen like that and not be able to do anything about it. Coyotes are really getting bold all over the place. I sure hope she manages to shoot them if she sees them again!

that woman just told me it’s probably against the law to kick $h!t.

That's insane! But it wouldn't surprise me a bit if she's right. I can believe that a bunch of liberal environmenal nut-jobs could get something like that passed. What do they expect farmers and ranchers to do, put little diapers on their horses and cows?! Jeez!

NES never had a majority of pagans though did it?

That's why I said "almost".

I'll go look at your thread. Becky

Good Morning.

So sorry to hear about the coyotes getting the dogs. What a terrible scene.

Alison and I went for a ride in the woods yesterday. Tubby had been so sore from the 8 hour episode, that she finally is ok. We didn't want to go for too long a ride, but it was very nice.

Good morning:)

I am glad Tubby has recovered:)

I am currently getting our RV ready for a camping trip that Mack and I are going on this weekend. To the lake with some friends of ours who have a boat. I’m really looking forward to getting away. And tomorrow is our 33rd anniversary, so it will be a nice way to celebrate:)

That sounds like a nice trip. Congrats on the anniversary too. 33 years is a good long time. Lee and I will have been married for 21 years in December. It just doesn’t seem like it could have been that long. Y’all have a good time, grill some good steaks, have a few beers and enjoy sitting around the campfire on these nice cool evenings we’ve been having. Sounds heavenly to me!

That sounds like fun. I hope you have a great time and the weather is good. I love to camp.

It is suppose to be a beautiful weekend here and I am contemplating going on a ride this weekend. It is at the place we went a few weeks ago, where we got lost. Kids have other plans, so I would have to go alone. It is a special fall weekend ride, that that organization is sponsoring. and all the meals are provided, but I sure don't want to ride with a lot of gaited horses for hours and hours. Maybe I will go for the food and the dance!

Happy Anniversary!

Sounds like a good camping trip!

We hope to go riding this weekend, but then I also feel like I have to get this stall thing finished this weekend, so we’ll see if fun or task that gets accomplished, or both!

I’m in something of a frenzy to get winter prep done.

Awwww c'mon, don't be like that, it'll be fun. Surely there'll be some non-gaited folks there too. There always are around here. But you just need to get you a good gaited horse and find out just how much fun you've been missing. Then if you get lost again and stuck out on the trail for another 8 hours you won't be quite so sore.

That stall took years to get that way so it's not going to hurt for it to wait another day or two. YOU need to get your butt outta that rut and get back out on the trail. It'll do you both good. The winter prep will keep!

Heh. I know you’re right! It’s just that a trail ride would take us out for a whole day, even if it’s a short one.

I may be hedging on putting stall mats down. Just the expense of having to buy new ones for inside. It would be really nice to have done, but it would be a lot of money!

I looked for used stall mats on Craigslist just for grins... didn’t find any, but found a lot of ads “stall mats wanted”. I guess a lot of people have the same idea.

Didja check for used conveyor belts too? I know some people who have used those. I’ve never looked for that kinda thing, but it might be cheaper. Just a thought.

If I did it I’d want them to be nice and heavy and flat. The belts I’ve seen in trailers tend to move around and curl.

I’m probably only hedging because it’s so nice and dry in there, and the approach into the barn (which I’d also like to mat) isn’t mud yet, and as soon as the rain starts I’ll probably regret it, but maybe that’s what I need to see again before I spend the money. Maybe for Christmas :~)

Check out this ad on Craigslist. Family Safe Project HORSE WANTED

She wants horses who don't buck, bite or kick, to train (if they don't do anything bad what do we need her for?) and she'll pay you for the horse after she trains and sells it.

I guess maybe there's people who have horses that have been sitting around awhile and need a brush up to sell for a better price. It just struck me as odd, that she wants horses to train who don't really need training. ;~)

Yeah, sounds like she’s offering to sharpen up and get back into shape any un-used but good horses for a cut of the sales price. If you had a horse that hadn’t been ridden in several years, they probably wouldn’t really be good prospects for kids or inexperienced riders so they may be a bit hard to sell. So I guess it’s not really a bad idea.
