This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I just went and looked and it actually looks like it’s headed for Dallas, so Tuffydoodle may be in it’s path. We haven’t heard from her in a long time.
Tuffy, how ya doin’ over there? We’re hoping you’re not going to get too much bad weather from Gustav. You seeing any rain yet?
My husband contracted pneumonia. Then the teenager had her wisdom teeth out last Tuesday (all four at once and they put her under) and then I took care of my grandchildren Thurs - Sunday, the youngest still in diapers) while my daughter and her husband went out of town.
So, I've been a bit swamped. I did get to ride for one afternoon about 3 weeks ago, and it was wonderful. My dear horse who hadn't been had a rider on his back for some time was a perfect gentleman.
Re- craftsman style - I like the cozy appearance from the outside, except for the way the porches go on - sort of like the house is hiding. And I like lots of light as well.
When we built our house up north of here, I did what you are doing with taking plans I liked (floor plans) and pictures of rooms with the details showing that I liked and the designer took it from there. It will turn out great! I'm excited for you.
The one thing we did was ask for high ceilings, and they are 10 feet, and the neat thing about that is the house is cool when we walk in, even though we keep the ac pretty much off when we're not there.
Hey Frog, we’re fine. We might get a bit of rain out of Gustav but we are too far inland for it to be damaging. Thanks for asking.
Got a lot going on. I don’t know if y’all know my husband is a developer. He bought a big boarding facility here in the town I’m in with the intention of developing it but is quickly changing his mind, he wants to build a house and live there. It’s a big place so he assures me I would have no loss of privacy, which is a HUGH deal for me. It’s a fine place, lots of barns, a nice arena, covered round pen with solid sides, full time barn and groundskeeper and a waiting list of people wanting to get in. I don’t go out there much, lost the desire to be around horsepeople and horses with Tuffy gone. I still have all of my horses but I’m selling a bunch of my stuff. I’ve sold 2 saddles, several bits, bridle and breastcollar and some other stuff on ebay. If anyone wants to know my ebay site, PM me and I’ll give you my username. I’m adding more tack all the time but I’m starting to run out. I’m keeping my 2 good saddles (one english and one western) and a couple of bridles and getting rid of the rest. I’m fixing to put a bareback pad on there as soon as I can figure out a way to ship it.
It’s good to hear from you. The boarding facility that your hubby bought sounds like a dream. Income and horses with someone else doing the work :) Do you still have Mina (?) is that the right name?
We’ve got most of our horses up for sale, sold Tuffy, Rocky (the baby of Farah’s this year) and BamBam. Have a trainer who has Lace and Slick going well under saddle and on trail and today he started CJ and is putting miles on Friday so we can get them all sold. We will probably geld Sonny. Sam isn’t old enough yet (18mos) to get him started so I don’t know what we’ll do with him. Bob is going to take a bunch of our saddles down to the feed store to sell on consignment.
Hoping all is going well with you.
Scarey about the pneumonia - how is he doing now?
A horse that you can pull out of the pasture and put a saddle on and ride after months of rest is worth it’s weight in gold :)
I had a lot planned for today but so far, not much done. A friend came over for breakfast and he and I spent 3 hours visiting and solving the world’s problems. So now I’ve got laundry started and need to get a bunch of internet ads updated on horses. And freeze some cabbage.
I'm really thankful for my horse, I hope I can ride more this fall than I've been able to this summer.
Are you getting out of the business alltogether?
Oh, I forgot to answer your question. Yes, I still have Mina. I really should sell her.
Here's the yearling, Party Like A Rock Star, Hal brought home from Shelbyville:
I’m glad he’s okay. Bob and I have both had the vac - don’t know if it works since neither of us have previously had pneumonia but it didn’t hurt.
I don’t know - Mina sure is beautiful. It’s got to be good for the soul to just look out and see her every morning.
Yes, we are getting completely out of the business. We’ll keep Prez, Bob’s horse, Indy, my son’s horse, and Farah. We are selling everything else. Bob couldn’t bear to see Prez go, anyone can ride Indy and I don’t want to take the chance of anyone ever breeding Farah again. It’s way too much work for us any more and too much expense if I’m to ever retire.
That sure is a pretty yearling. Is it black?
Good GRIEF, that neck just goes on forever doesn’t it! Looks like he’s going to be a pretty little thing. Hal just can’t seem to quit buying horses can he? At least he’s not accquiring more old cars. Those are quite a bit more expensive, at least at first. I don’t know about in the long run though! ;o)
So did you and BladeRider go riding today?
Hey there TG, good to hear from you too. That’s the pits about your husband’s pneumonia. Sounds like the vaccine would be a good thing for him. We get the flu shot every year, but we’ll probably go ahead and get the pneumonia shot this year or next, when we turn 50. I think it’s supposed to last several years.
I’m glad you got to do a little riding. I’m just counting the days until I can go again!
Wow, that sounds exciting about your husband buying the new place, expecially all the facilities and the live-in help. Sounds like heaven to me! I’m hoping that one day you’ll get your love of horses back and maybe living in this place will help.
Yes, she’s black. Maybe a little sunbleached, but not as much as Sassy and Daisy. I clipped all the red “baby hair” off her tail and bathed her today and Hal trimmed her feet. She let him do her front feet with the grinder, but he had to twitch her to do the back. She does have a long neck and small head. I just got back from playing with her and she just stands there and lets you rub and hug all over and around her, even after the trimming and bath!
He is going to take Sky and the Paso back to the sale Fri. Sky is fattened up and ridable and the Paso is never gonna tame down. That will just leave Sasha, Freckles, and hopefully Soldier. If Sassy gets to be 16 or more hands we won’t be able to get on her. I was gonna ride her some this weekend, but she got thru the fence in the West pasture and Soldier trapped her in a corner and whaled the tar out of her left side. She is too swollen and skinned up to put a saddle on her.
