Hi jt! I really benefit from the encouragement I reap from my ATRW family! I worked on the Phoenix fuel system. It was quite a challenge because it had been built in the late 90's and we had to make it work with modifications to an almost complete vehicle. There is very little room to make modifications to a spacecraft that is almost complete.

Yes, you were correct. As a matter of fact, the Delta II was Boeing’s offering and the ATLAS V was our (Lockheed Martin’s) offering to the government’s ELV (Expendable Launch Vehicle) competitive project that started in the 90’s and pitted Boeing against LM to build an unmanned launch vehicle for the government. I worked on the ATLAS V development team. Then, in 2001, a went back to spacecraft where I had been in the early 90's.

Since then, the government decided to merge Boeing's Delta II with LM's ATLAS V and created a new company out of it, the United Launch Alliance, which finally passed the SEC last year.
