A meeting is currently ongoing at WWE TV and it is expected that tonight's three hour Raw will now be dedicated to Benoit's memory.

6:09 Update: WWE.com issued the following statement this afternoon:

"WWE is sad to report that Chris Benoit and his family have been found dead in their home. Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Tonight's Raw will be a tribute to Chris and his family."

To the Freeper family, this story is hitting talk radio, Fox sports and clearly, a general repercussion in the society.

This reminds me of another story, where I thought the guy acted like a “miniature” Cho. This is an awful mini-murder spree.

Anyone think that this story will get some mainstream pub in the cable news shows?

A much as I respect these wrestlers who have entertained me for countless hours, it pains me to say this could be worth a week on Nancy Grace.

...but offhand, I cannot recall if any well-known public figure in entertainment has ever taken the life of their own child.

It's so disgusting I almost have no words. Well, no words suitable for a public forum, except, what a piece of garbage that he would kill his own 7-year-old son. Ooh, big man. (Liberally add the f-word, and you'll catch my drift.)

I read those stories. I need to get shots after reading all 400+ of them!

Do you want to know what I think happened? Too bad, I'm gonna say it anyway!

PURE SPECULATION: Chris and his wife, who had their problems, noticed their child was not as tall/big/etc. as he "should" be at his age. Whether this was true, or if it was a warped perception due to being around large, muscular, overgrown people due to their occupation, is up for debate. Maybe his wife convinced Benoit to give their son HGH to "help" him...I noticed during the tribute, the picture of their son Daniel was one where his forehead head looked too prominent--a side effect of HGH. The unauthorized use of HGH (from who knows what source) led to health problems with the boy--possibly serious health problems--and likely much friction with the couple.

My thought is that Daniel got sick, Benoit went home, was angry at his wife for convincing him to go along with this scheme, killed the wife, "put the child out of his misery", and killed himself. He might have sympathized with his wife, and definitely symphathized with his innocent son...that's why Bibles were placed by their bodies. He likely bamed himself, ultimately, for the whole ordeal, and committed suicide, leaving no Bible behind, thinking himself unworthy of forgiveness.

wow...that is crazy. The whole sport of staged wrestling is pretty sick in my opinion. People getting a thrill out of watching men act like they are enraged and pounching on each other. What a disgrace.

Don't worry -- I'm liberally adding the F-word right now.

A friend just e-mailed me and told me his ex- (mom of their 2 middle-school-age kids) has cervical cancer "issues," and he's taking care of her because their kids need their mom. Given what has transpired over the last couple of days, plus my friend's news, I'm damn near in tears. Married or divorced, kids need their parents to be there for them -- even if not at the same time.

Compare this to the Benoit situation. My friend on good terms with his ex- for the sake of the kids vs. MURDERING his offspring for the sake of......what???? What the bloody f*** could have driven Benoit to premeditate this the way he did???

On Fox Sports Radio they were commenting that maybe the text messages sent out that were alarming was something like “Take care of the bank account, take care of the dogs.”

Where they got this, I don’t know, but they acted like this was what was in those messages.

“The media on scene seems obsessed with the steroid angle.”

Maybe with good reason.
I was prescribed steroids for a brief period of time a few years ago....the stuff drove me nuts.

I’d rather be sick than suffer through that “cure” again.

As someone who first started watching wrestling with his grandfather in the early 80’s, it pains me to say this, but I hope this Benoit situation leads to the total destruction of the WWE. The product has become an unwatchable embarrassment. While never high brow entertainment, it wasn’t always as disgusting as it has become over the last few years. My grandfather probably hasn’t watched an event since NWA wrestling was on WTBS every Saturday night, and it’d be great if a new promotion would arise that could bring back that sort of wrestling and atmosphere.

Below is a detailed WWE/Chris Benoit timeline from Saturday to Monday:

Saturday, June 23, 2007

Chris Benoit was scheduled to appear at the WWE SmackDown/ ECW live event in Beaumont, Texas

3:30pm
A co-worker received a voice message from Benoit. The message from Benoit stated he missed his flight and over slept and would be late to the WWE Live Event. The co-worker called Benoit back, Benoit confirmed everything he said in his voice message and sounded tired and groggy. Benoit then stated, “I love you”. The co-worker stated that it was “out of context.”

3:42pm
The same co-worker was concerned with Benoit’s tone and demeanor and called Benoit for a second time. Benoit did not answer the call and the co-worker left a message stating “just call me back.”

3:44pm
Benoit called the co-worker back stating he didn’t answer the call because he was on the phone with Delta changing his flight. Benoit stated he had a real stressful day due to Nancy and Daniel being sick with food poisoning. They discussed travel plans for the WWE Tour of Texas with Benoit still sounding groggy at this point according to the co-worker.

4:30pm
A co-worker who consistently travels with Benoit, called Benoit from outside Houston airport and Benoit answered. Benoit told the co-worker that Nancy was throwing up blood and that Daniel was also throwing up. Benoit thought they had food poisoning. Benoit stated he changed his flight and he would be arriving into Houston at 6:30pm. Benoit told the co-worker to drive onto the WWE event.

5:35pm
Benoit called WWE Talent Relations stating that his son was throwing up and that he and Nancy were in the hospital with their son, and that Benoit would be taking a later flight into Houston, landing late, but would make the WWE live event in Beaumont.

6:10pm
A representative of Talent Relations called Benoit. The representative from Talent Relations asked Benoit what time Benoit was getting into Beaumont. Benoit responded he was leaving Atlanta at 9:20pm Eastern time arriving into Houston at 9:24pm Central time. The representative from Talent Relations advised Benoit that it would be too late to make the WWE live event in Beaumont. Benoit apologized citing he had a family emergency. The representative from Talent Relations suggested to Benoit that instead of going to the WWE live event in Beaumont, Benoit should take the flight to Houston, rest up and be ready for the Vengeance Pay-Per-View event.

6:13pm
The representative from Talent Relations called Benoit to reconfirm the travel plans with no answer from Benoit. The representative from Talent Relations left a voice message to take the flight and rest up.

I got Koloff’s autograph in a Tallahassee gym in 1985. He signed it “Happy New Year”. The War Lord asked me where the water fountain was. I told Ivan he was my favorite entertainer and he was quite gracious.

First, my deepest respect for your friend who can put aside personal differences for a greater good. It should be normal behavior, but it is rare, and he is to be commended.

In response to your question, I suppose there are only two possible answers: pure insanity, or pure evil, and sometimes, since I'm not a trained professional, I'm not sure what the difference is when the outcome is the same.

I remember that guy Baron Von Raschke; and feintly the other two Russians he is pictured with at Wikipedia;

Yeh; these other two Russians were not in the same lovable vein as big ol’ Nikoli.

Growing up in the ‘70s in central Virginia, I religiously watched Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling, out of (I think) Greensboro, NC. Chief Wahoo McDaniel, Rufus R. “Freight Train” Jones, a young Ric Flair, and Ricky Steamboat and Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka, Paul Orndorff, Ole and Arn Andersen...to me, pro wrestling still has never gotten any better than seeing those guys go at it in some crappy Greensboro TV studio in front of 100 people. I gave up on it in the early ‘90s.
