We are still awaiting further details, but PWInsider.com is extremely saddened to report that former WWE and WCW World champion Chris Benoit and his wife, former WCW and ECW personality Nancy "Woman" Benoit were both found dead today in Atlanta, Georgia. Obviously this will be a huge developing story in the days to come but at this point, we'd like to express our deepest condolences to the Benoits' family, friends, and fans at this time.
A meeting is currently ongoing at WWE TV and it is expected that tonight's three hour Raw will now be dedicated to Benoit's memory.
6:09 Update: WWE.com issued the following statement this afternoon:
"WWE is sad to report that Chris Benoit and his family have been found dead in their home. Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Tonight's Raw will be a tribute to Chris and his family."
Thanks for that ....
I very briefly met him. He and a number of other wrestlers (including Eddie Gerrero) were on a plane with my wife. She still gives me grief about the fact I was more excited to see them then I was to see her (this was back when you could still meet passengers at the gate). Obviously it was a short encounter, but he was very polite to me and to my wife on the flight. Thoughts and prayers for his family, I cannot imagine what they must be going through now.

Friend of mine, worked on the house of one of the Road Warriors; I guess they were okay.
These guys live in a bad world; that Miss Elizabeth died a few years ago; what is amazing is that Lex Luger, that guy, became her husband, their home got a call concerning Miss Elizabeth getting all banged up some months before her death; and Miss Elizabeth died from some pills and maybe alcohol combined that was Luger’s.
Sounds preposterous; but it’s there at wikipedia.

These guys and gals live in too shady of a world; man, I can’t believe this latest.
Fake?
This kind of stuff happens everytime someone of public stature dies. We get those that make jokes of their deaths. We get unwarranted speculation. We get crass remarks.
No, my response was not fake. It was genuine. I find that kind of response and behaviour childish, immature and downright cowardly.
It does not matter whether someones speculation ended up correct. My point was we do not even give the families a lousy 24 hours. Many say "But it is in the news". A pretty lame reason to act classless, in my opinion.
Maybe these guys live in such a shadey world;
Outside possibility of it being staged as a murder suicide??
It would make more sense than some of the reports.
I know what you’re saying. There’s always somebody who wants to be the one who “called it”. It’s not like there’s a trophy or a cookie for it. I guess there’s some self-satisfaction in it for them.
You won an Emmy?!? Do tell.
Quack quack
I don’t know. Killing a pregnant woman is pretty barbaric. Don’t we already have two other “father kills family/children” stories running this weekend?
Free Republic posters are often good at analyzing the news and throwing theories out there.

It isn’t about “being first” - but often about figuring out the “how” and “why” that horrible events occur.
Disgusting and tragic.
The old days with WTBS wrestling wasn’t bad, if one is going to go into for this.
But what a blackeye to the sport, to build up one’s muscles to do what??
Maybe the guy had a mental illness; and did this.
NFLers, NBAers, MBLers and even NHLers have some poor conduct to account for but imagine if someone in one of those sports pulled this and ESPN would have wall to wall coverage of it; well, on second thought, maybe a former NFLer did do something similar and there was coverage all over of it.
Unbelievable. There was nothing ever in his character that indicated something like this. There were never reports of missing shows without notice, "Wellness" suspensions by the WWE, alcohol or drug hints, violent tendencies (like Stone Cold), or anything.
This is absolutely horrifying, depressing, and tragic.
Yes and just think of all the cases that do not get highlighted in the news. I don’t know why some get national and worldwide attention while most do not.
