This week's (unofficial) topic: Open-Line Weekend. Anything that is FR-safe (for News and Chat) is fair game.
Only thing is: let's not get at each other--this is (well, I hope it is), a place to put politics, issues, etc. aside...
That said, let the games begin...
This must have been a sad week for you.
My older son is at college and when I heard about the shootings I had to call him just to hear his voice.
As soon as he answered I started crying and could barely talk.
My eight-year-old was in a school that went into lockdown for most of the day as some idiot held his former girlfriend hostage/at gunpoint, etc. and he was finally a suicide by cop, so that was just last Friday and this whole week has been like the twilight zone.
Don't mean to jump in and maybe twist a thread by mistake, but remember when I co-hosted the Halloween one and talked about my spooky life???
Rather than having to scramble for "sensitive government info" about me, the Lord had me do another "parlor trick" for the military due to the extremely quick "need to know" on the left coast.
On the bright side, I finally get to do the briefing while getting debriefed.
So it isn't a secret any more that I do for the WH what the real Allison DuBois does for the Maricopa County Prosecutor's Office. In fact, I am just fortunate that there are enough that don't mind the media attention as a medium and I can just do my job.
I have absolutely no idea what that means.
Hopefully, it is good.
;-)
Same (stuff), different day...
Nope, not at all...
It IS a free-for-all thread...
It’s been a sad week for everyone, but this one has impacted me more than I would have thought it would. I haven’t stayed close to the university, so I wouldn’t have thought that it should hit me more than others. I had been in the Murrah Building a few weeks before the Oklahoma City bombing. With that one, there were plenty of thoughts of “If I had been there at the time, could I have seen something and been able to do something to prevent it?” Obviously, I was 25 years too early on this one, but the same thoughts have crossed my mind. “Is this a guy that I would have noticed? If I saw him chaining the doors, would I have done something? Would I have the guts to rush him when he changed magazines?”
Oh.
Well, at least things aren’t worse!
Boldly going Nowhere...
If you’re thinking thoughts like that now, I think you would have the courage to rush him.
I don’t think people of lesser courage would even wonder about those things.
I just read your homepage. Looks like you’ve got a good head on your shoulders.
I wouldn’t want to disagree with you, but.... if you’re in college you’re going somewhere.
I remember your talking about seeing and knowing things. That's a fascinating skill. I'd love to know more about it. We joke at work about the claims that the remote viewers never saw anything past 2012 so the world must be ending then. Sometimes we say that there's no point in having a 20 year design life when the world is ending in 2012.

...heh, but the posts here say otherwise

Not to mention the lack of sociability, the lack of ever having a true girlfriend, spending a lot of my spare time on the computer drinking and writing Unix shell scripts, etc. ad nauseam...
Two threads?
Fun!
Yep...
You’re a VT alum?
That has to be hard.
I can identify with all that, and I feel like a bigger loser than you, so...you’re not alone.
Well, that is certainly a comforting thought...
check out the first link...
I can tell you that God needs you here now and we are here to comfort you.
It becomes more and more apparent that people need to volunteer to be trained in CISM (Critical Incident Stress Management) or there will be lots and lots more people on pills because we are all big walking germs and spreading mental illness. We also have to be the cure for the same illness.
Currently, the left coast (California) will be voting (legislative???) to make client cnetered peer recovery as part of all behavioral health treatment plans.
I wish I could try to teach all of the recovery strategies and pathways that I learned as quickly as blinking an eye so that all that are so negatively affected emotionally can start the recovery process.
To put fear in students and teachers is emotionally scarring our entire society to one degree or another.
Jesus was the Greatest Teacher of them all.
Now it is time for all of us to try to return the favor to help all of our little (and big) disciples.

Who cares what the posts say?
It’s what you think about yourself that counts!
When a person values and likes himself or herself, others sense it and are attracted to that person.
