Taxpayers' Foot The Bill Of Anna Nicole's Death

(CBS4) NASSAU, BAHAMAS The unexpected and highly publicized death of Anna Nicole Smith and all the legal battles that have followed did not cause a lot of spending of taxpayers’ money.

With all the publicity surrounding her death and court battles, it may have been perceived as costing a lot of money at taxpayers’ expense but officials say that’s simply not the case.

The Broward County Medical Examiner's Office had to determine what killed Smith. The office says that while the case was high-profile, it didn't involve many additional resources. The office says investigations of police shootings and jail deaths are more expensive.

Six outside consultants helped on the case, but the medical examiner persuaded them to waive their typical fees of 400 to 500 dollars an hour, a savings of about 20-thousand dollars.

Expenses included the medical examiner sending two staffers to the Bahamas to examine Smith's medical records and to interview physicians.

The Seminole Police Department has led the investigation into Smith's February eighth, but it isn't talking.

Autopsy results released yesterday show Smith died of an accidental overdose of medicine.

Daniel Smith Inquest Opens in Bahamas

NASSAU, Bahamas -- An inquest into the death of Anna Nicole Smith's 20-year-old son, who died in September while visiting her after she gave birth in a Bahamas hospital, stalled Tuesday before a court could even pick a jury.

Soon after the court convened, spectators and reporters were ordered to leave when Wayne Munroe, a lawyer for the estate of the former Playboy Playmate, asked the judge to consider a motion that "relates to the impaneling of a jury to act on this inquiry."

Munroe and other attorneys declined to comment upon leaving court, saying Bahamian legal rules prohibited them from discussing a closed session.

Later, Bernard Turner, director of public prosecutions, said the court would take at least another day to resolve the issue raised by Munroe and the inquest would not resume before Thursday. Jurors were excused until then.

I guess Harvey must be scared of that nasty press release. Did you hear him say that no one CREDIBLE is saying that HKS intentionally killed Daniel? Most are saying it was some type of accident if Stern was involved according to him. Whatever..I noticed that they were pretty quiet today and just posted 2 articles on TMZ regarding the case.

Yes..isn't that pathetic. They have to wait until April 3 to see if Stern will appeal so I guess they don't want the DNA person to come and not be able to testify.

Oh, I see - because of the Daniel inquest getting a late start and potentially taking quite a long time, then the DNA/paternity hearing involving many of the same participants likewise needs to be re-scheduled.

Of course I think Stern, as the faux-hubby was relegated to the "guest" room. Why would anyone sleep with a sick person? If she was feverish his just being in the bed would make her uncomfortable and possibly more hot. Plus she smelled pungent. Ewwww. I would beg to sleep in the guest room!
I found it unusual that in the hotel scene report when describing the bedside table in Anna's room, they pointed out there was "open and non-opened cans of soda." Why didn't they name the brands as they certainly named the brand "Slimfast" they could have used meal replacement shake or something like that since they were being vague about the soda. They continue to say "gum" but not the brands.... but "Nicorette", instead of nicotine gum. Then to the other night stand there is a "partly covered transparent glass jar containing a brownish liquid" Could this possibly be the baby bottle (where in the heck is that baby bottle?)? OR... just a thought.... could it be like, since it was a non-smoking hotel room, she was chewing tobacco and that was the spit jar? I know someone who does that and always leaves nasty brownish spittle. Just a thought...

Then they tell the medicine name of "Tamiflu", but not the name of the "cold medicine". Then they leave us hanging by saying, "there were numerous medicine bottles, prescribed under different names." Whose name and what were they? They did not mention the trash contents, etc. What about the dialuad wrappers that were supposed to have been found? Why were the beds in the guest room "well made?" Did they mean construction-wise? hahaha

The pearl necklace had to have been placed on the foot of the bed after the ruckus. If the sheets were balled up and pillows scattered. Why?

Could the LV purse be the one that toted the drugs? Did they go through it? (as in the duffel bag o'goodies)
