Now is a good time to prune roses... they said so on the news yesterday!
So glad she will be OK - it certainly was a close call, and the panic button is a very good idea. It was fear of just that kind of thing that made my grandma not want to be home alone at the beach house any more... there'd be no one there to hear her. I hope your mom can get home and get those rose bushes finished soon... with her button on, just in case.

You are a wise son. ;o) That's good to get her some sort of 'panic button', kind of like the 'Life Alert' thing. That way, she can get help more quickly, when needed.

Hmm... prune roses. Need to do that. Have gangly-lookin’ rose bushes and no idea where to cut ‘em. Figure’d I’d just go sorta Bonsai on ‘em. “see the tree”. “make the tree”. Wax on. Wax off.

I still want to buy roses and attempt to grow them - climbing ones.
Roses don’t really grow in Vermont. So I’m pretty intimidated by ‘em.
Try them in a bucket, if you want ...
You think we might be able to get together for lunch or something in July?
I like roses. We have one bush... I wouldn’t mind more...
I want ‘em to grow along my fence.
Do they bloom the very first year? Or no?
Whilst we’re on gardening issues.
My tulips and daffodils on one side of the yard didn’t do so well this year. Partially becasue I didn’t feed them, partially because critters et them.
I want to lift the ones that are left and replant them out back. Do I need to wait for all the foliage to die before I do that?
And, do I need to wait for fall to replant them? Or can I do it immediately?
Vole solutions also welcomed.
OB has lifted daffodils and moved ‘em right after they’ve bloomed without ill effect, don’t know about tulips, we’ve never tried moving them. LSA
I have a really dumb question - what do you do with daffodil plants after they’re about done blooming? Can you snip them off at ground level and just leave ‘em?
You don’t want to cut back the foliage until it’s dead. They still get nutrients for next year from that.
LSA - I’ve moved tulips before. But I’m not sure there are any to come back. None of the red ones came up on that side of the yard. The other side did fine (the ones in the snow picture).
You need to pinch off the wilted blossom. It’s called dead-heading, and if’n you don’t do it, the plant will set seed, which will reduce it’s ability to bloom the following year. LSA
