The Hobbit Hole XXXIII - And the brook that leaps from hill to plain...

Posted on 03/08/2007 2:40:27 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

I thought this episode was okay, not great, but better. Good to have some answers and did you notice... that Juliette was holding a Stephen King book? Don't read enough of his books to know if they would hold any clues or not.

Meh... Rose & I called it that Juliette was faking about 10 minutes into the episode. Ben mentioned the title of the Stephen King book (I think it was one that Juliette had picked for their reading group), but I can't remember now what he said. It may be significant! (end spoiler)

Found the problem with the remotes... another remote (one for a TV that we don't use currently) apparently had something resting on top of it, pressing the buttons, and was putting out a signal that was interfering with our usual remotes. I don't know what activated it, but once I moved it the regular remote started working again. Mystery solved!

I had a little bit of drama today. Around 3:30PM I got a call from my mom. She had fallen while working in the garden, and could not get up. She lay on the ground in a cold rain for two hours calling for help before a neighbor found her, brought her into the house, and called me.

When I got there, she was still wet and shivering, but made no objections to calling 911. I got her into dry clothes, a warm jacket, and stocking cap before EMS showed up.

While she showed no signs of trauma, they did a workup on her anyway, since you don't take chances at 84. The doctor says she apparently had a mild, asymptomatic heart attack. That is probably what caused her to fall, and not be able to get up.

They don't see any serious complications, although they are keeping her at least overnight to get her started on blood thinners and do a CAT scan to verify there are no aneurysms. No apparent trauma from her fall, since the ground was wet (and cold).

While waiting with her in the ER, I heard a conversation about another 83-year-old woman who fell down the stairs, and then came in two days later when complications set in. I'm grateful my mother showed some strong common sense.

I'll be getting her a wireless remote panic button hooked up to her alarm system. I think she'll carry it with her without any fuss, now. She never blacked out, but spending two hours on your side in a cold rain, calling for help, can get your attention. If the weather would have been better, someone would have been outside, and gotten to her sooner.

I will refrain from asking her what possessed her to trim her rose bushes in lousy weather like this.

Oh geez winmag. I've been right there with ya. Prayers for your mom and for your peace of mind.

Let it go. These are the questions that have no answer. ;-)

Thanks. I just called the hospital, and found out that mom just got into her room in the cardiac unit a while ago, and only fell asleep about an hour ago.

She'll have an echocardiogram this afternoon. The CAT scan must not have shown any aneurysm, because they would have immediately put in a stent if it did. A good sign will be if she calls for her crossword puzzles today.

In smaller related miracles, her basement did not flood after the 3/4 inch of rain yesterday. The ground is super-saturated, and the local streams are up about two feet since yesterday. I'm now going to try and get about six hours of sleep before I go to the hospital/run errands/go to work. I'm glad she's sleeping, because I'm still wound up tight. But at least there's relatively good news to be wound up about.

Goodness! I’m glad your mom is ok!

Can you give me a tip on how your mom did it? (Raised such a good son, I mean.)
